January 8, 1728, a baby boy named Ashley Bowen was born. He began a career in seafaring by age eleven, which lasted most of his life. He was born and grew up in a town called Marblehead, which is located in Massachusetts. Seafaring was Ashley’s career, and he made money by transporting cargo, serving in the British Navy, and trading goods. During the beginning of his seafaring career, he was only thirteen when he was apprenticed to Captain Peter Hall of Boston, who had severely beaten Bowen. Bowen had repeatedly attempted to escape Hall, but was unsuccessful till he was seventeen, which is when he spent the next eighteen years working for the other organizations. During these seafaring years, Ashley kept journals and wrote down his life process in them journals, forming today’s piece of literacy, “The Autobiography…
Andrea Yates, born July 2, 1964 in Houston, Texas, was just another average American girl. She was a remarkable student and ended up being her class valedictorian at Milby High School in Houston. She went to college at the University of Huston for nursing and continued her education at the University of Texas, School of Nursing; she graduated in 1986. In 1993, she married Rusty Yates, a devout follower of Michael Peter Woroniecki’s teachings which communicated that if a mother didn’t bring her children up correctly, she and her children were doomed to hell. Andrea, convinced he was right, later referenced some of Pastor Woroniecki’s teachings in court. The fertile couple had four sons over the period between 1994 and 1999. In 1999, Andrea attempted suicide twice before she was treated for her post-partum depression which was already provoked by her present mental imbalance, the family’s overcrowded living conditions, and Andrea’s refusal to take her medication. The doctor told Andrea and Rusty not to have any more children. Andrea was prescribed medication and sent back home to mother her children. She appeared to be getting better and Rusty began pressuring Andrea to…
My maternal grandmother Shirley Rae Harrington grew up during World War Two. But despite the war, she lived a somewhat normal childhood. When she was young there were very few other children in the area to play with and her younger sister, Sissy, was paralyzed. So she often played by herself in a stream nearby. Her family also owned several horses, chickens, pigs and a billy goat. Surprisingly she didn't get into much trouble as a child, except once when her family was down in our properties Maryland. People were racing speedboats in the creek, so she asked a neighbor who her family knew if she could go. He said yes and took her in his own boat when they got back her parents were fine but Mimi was upset with her. Her first travel experience…

#1. Alvin Langdon Coburn was at the forefront of photography as art. At the time photography was young and new much like the skyscrapers and machinery in the quickly expanding cities of the second industrial revolution. Coburn’s photography depicts a cold, hard, and filthy place with smoke and steam rising into the sky above all else. Coburn is trying to convey the price of advancement and progress in his newly mechanization world.…

I believe that I would make a great addition to the Millersville family, contributing tremendous qualities to all I encounter. Over the four years I’ve been in high school, I have been a part of some especially rewarding activities. Music has always been a love of mine as long as I can remember. During my elementary school years is when I first started to love the percussion aspect of the music; I loved the creativity in it all. This was around the same time that I became diagnosed with ADHD, making it increasingly difficult to concentrate on the task at hand. This became a huge problem for be before the diagnosis; no one exactly knew how to deal with this issue. I needed to find activities and occupations to channel these feelings and overloaded…
My name is Regina Goforth-Lewis. I was born and raised in Michigan. As a young child, I went to four different elementary schools. I ended up graduating High School from the last of those schools, Southfield Christian High School. It was here that I decided I would eventually work with youth in some way. My life took a small detour before I got to that point. I attended the Oakland Community College shortly after graduating, however, decided to work full time and pursue a different career avenue: Retail Management. Although this was exciting and perfect for me at the time, I knew it was not my calling. Around the age of 22, I decided to enroll back to in college part time and follow the original dream of working with young people. I studied under the Social Work/Mental Health field. I never completed the program to receive my Associates Degree; however, I do have 66 credit hours accumulated. During this time, I loved college and my internship, which later became a fulltime job at the H.A.V.E.N. I worked there as a Supervised Visitation Specialist for many years. While working in the social work field and also in the communications field, I met and married my husband and we started a family. I always knew if it was feasible I would want to be able to stay at home with my children for as long as possible and I was fortunate enough to be able to do this for almost 13 years. Along the way I held down several part time jobs to earn extra income for the family, these jobs always included working with youth to some degree, such as a shift supervisor at the local Parks and Recreation Center’s concession stand or at the Elementary School where the children attended as a lunch room monitor. I also volunteered time at my church as a Sunday school teacher, a senior high youth advisor and a Deacon. I read to students at the library and taught American Sign Language (ASL) to hearing children. After 15 years, my children’s father and I divorced. I currently find myself as…
As Alice McKelan exited the abandoned train station on October 23rd at 10:30 pm her blonde hair blew in her face, covering it like a blanket. She made her way hurriedly down the platform stairs and onto the dimly lit street below, tugging at her coat in an attempt to shelter her body from the chill.…
