Dwight, a man of around 40, has been a diligent worker at Dunder Mifflin for many years, proving himself worthy of the job he possesses. Avery, a cleaning boy of around 20, just landed himself a job at a local movie theater. Both characters are very much outsiders in life, be it self-appointed, like Avery, or freak from birth, like Dwight. Regardless of how each of them got to their social level in life, we see that they both struggle to make new friends. Regardless of this fact, both characters pick up friends through work. Avery becomes friends first with Sam, who he shares many interests with, and later Rose. Dwight had recently stirred up some bad blood between himself and his boss Michael. When Michael looked further into why Dwight was late, Dwight had no response, as Angela didn’t want people to know that he went for her, as they might piece together that they were a couple. Avery was caught when a new boss bought the theater that he worked at, and took a close look at the books, realizing that there was money missing. When he returned to his friends, he asked if they would be willing to all come out together, hoping that the punishment would be reduced. His “friends” basically refused to allow this, and asked Avery if he would just take the blame as he didn’t need the job as much as either of them. As the stories progress, both Dwight and Avery were fired for acts they were not accustomed to committing.
