Avid Reflective Essay
Avid is an important tool to help a student achieve their greatest success throughout high school. I believe this to be true because of the work ethic that I have today. During difficult times, I am able to incorporate what I have learned in Avid and become readily prepared to encounter any academic challenge that comes my way. This encourages me to strive towards the ultimate level of success and manage my time wisely in order to ensure these achievements. Avid has helped me overcome my academic challenges by increasing my ability to comprehend, organize properly, and be able to develop effective test taking skills. In the beginning, my comprehension level was poor and it was difficult for me to understand the text that I would read in class. After only a few months of avid, the repetition of reading academic stories and taking Cornell notes on them has helped me tremendously with comprehension. Before, it seemed that no matter how hard I tried I could never remember the key points of a story. Nevertheless, I joined Avid hoping I could improve these skills when taking exams. I learned how to really interpret the text and annotate the key points of what I was reading. I noticed an improvement when I received my English tests and for the first time my …show more content…

This effective process had not only helped me from getting distracted but helped me truly gain the knowledge that I was obtaining. Instead of memorizing, I will continue to take the time to really comprehend every piece of knowledge that I

Although I see why Avid is a well-recognized program, I’ve personally had no benefit from it. It’s because of this that I predict exiting from the program won’t affect me. I know Avid will look good in my college transcript but I don’t worry about that since I have pretty good grades and keep them that way. When I need help, I can always go to my teachers for tutoring, as I already do. I’m aware that this is a new year and a fresh start but if it’s the same thing all over again, I know I would regret staying in the program for yet another year.…

In this task I will be reflecting upon an incident undertaken on area of my work. The model of reflection I’ve chosen is Gibbs (1988), which involves reflection on the description, feelings, evaluation, conclusion and action plan (Gibbs 1988). The Gibbs (1988) reflective cycle is fairly straightforward and encourages a clear description of the situation, analysis of feelings, evaluation of the experience, analysis to make sense of the experience, conclusion where other options are considered and reflection upon experience to examine what you would do if the situation arose again. The procedure in which I will be reflecting upon is Last offices; I chose this due to how constructive and valuable it was in my personal and professional development as a student practitioner nurse.…

As nervous as I was when I walked into Saint Joseph Catholic School (K-8) for my first day of kindergarten, I never thought I would be able to leave after 6th grade and enter the world of middle school. In a small school of about 400 kids, I was familiar with every face that passed by me in the hallway. I got to know the kids in my grade so well and we all knew each other’s life stories. By the time I was in 6th grade at Saint Joseph, some of my friends were planning on going to Kinard middle school in 7th grade. At this point in my life, I was not completely content with where I was going to school. The realization came to me that it was time to move on. It was time for me to try something new.…

With activities such as tutorials, SAT prep., book projects, Socratic seminars, and practice essays, we’re able to get ahead of our peers. However, AVID doesn't only give you academic support, it also provides you with the emotional support you need. AVID gives you people who guide, support and believe in you. Yes, we may have our family and friend, but they can't truly relate. Either they don't understand what we’re going through or they don't have the same goals as us. AVID has been somewhat of an anchor throughout my high school career. Whenever I'm feeling stressed or overwhelmed I know I can count on anyone in that classroom to help make me feel better. It's an amazing feeling to know that at the end of the day, no matter what I have my AVID…
