“Each figure contributes to the novel by "telling stories," in the double sense of narrating and lying, so that the text emerges as something of a dialogue” (Hughes). A tribal leader, Nanapush comes from a place of guidance and wants what is best not only for the people around him but the land of the Native American. Pauline was a mixed blood Indian who was involved in her Christian ways forgetting about the Indian ways, because the native folks around her would treat her with no respect. Pauline's story is coming from a place of confession and validation within her actions, looking for forgiveness. Story telling is based on painting an image for the readers to understand the characters. “The storyteller relies on memory (his or hers and his or her listener's) and creates a chain of tradition that passes on a happening from generation to generation” (Sergi, 1). Both narrators talk about the main character Fleur. Nanapush seems to symbolize a father figure, because Nanapush helped nurse fleur back to health after nearly dying from an epidemic in the beginning of the story. He has a better connection with Fleur in the story. Pauline talks about Fleur with jealousy and hatred against her. She may be against her, because she probably thinks Fleur is better at everything than Pauline. The differences between the two story-tellers is really what drives the story and is very telling, not only about the story itself, but…

One way responsibility is seen in The Pigman is when John and Lorraine take responsibility for their lies. Well, at the beginning of the book, we learned that John is a frequent liar. He lies to get out of trouble. So he told Mr. Pignati that they are charity workers. Later on in the book, John reveals that him and Lorraine aren't adult charity workers and says, “ We just had to be honest with you because we like you more than anyone we know.” (Zindel 102) That quote showed that John was really starting to care for Mr. Pignati and he didn’t want to live his life on one big lie. In this way, John…

Pignati was the nicest man one could be, and it probably explains why he took John and Lorraine to the market, and bought them whatever they wanted. Among these were a pair of roller skates for all three of them, and they skated out wearing them as an infantile person would. While these skates seemed all fun and games at the moment, they were not. Just a few days after buying the skates, John, Lorraine, and Mr. Pignati were playing a game of skate tag. The rules were to not allow anyone to go upstairs in their skates during the game; however, John being the antagonistic player that he was did not follow the rules. He went up the stairs and Mr. Pignati chased after him. At this moment, Mr. Pignati suffered from a heart attack. Lorraine was mortified, but John somehow kept his cool and called the police. An ambulance to Mr. Pignati to the hospital where he stayed about a week. This was when Lorraine had the nightmare. This was no mundane nightmare however. It was about Mr. Pignati and his beloved glass pigs that his deceased wife had collected over the years. A silhouette of some sort was forcing Lorraine to enter Mr. Pignati’s room of pigs. There she found a coffin, and she knew Conchetta was in their. This nightmare seemed to symbolize death to Lorraine, but she wasn’t quite sure of the death of whom or…
The Pigman by Paul Zindel is a story told by two high school students writing about their. It is deemed inappropriate for young impersonal children at school. Some say it should be banned from school curriculum. Personally, I don't think it should be. The Pigman has many significant themes and lessons that students ban learn from. Accordingly, Lorraine and John can be bad influences. But we can also read and learn what not to do in our teenage years.…
