Axolotl By Julio Cortazar
Julio Cortazar did an amazing job with the axolotl short story. I truly loved the mysterious relationship between humans and animals. Magical realism made the story more magical, it started with the fascination of an animal, which was the axolotl, a creature that was in an aquarium, which I never heard of. The story mentioned that the narrator, had gotten bored with the lions and panthers he usually sees at the zoo, and then decides to explore the aquarium and surprisingly fell in love with an axolotls. I felt admiration, and astonishment while reading because it was so beautifully written especially with a lot of emotions. I almost felt as though I was that person who was going by the tank every day to view these beautiful creatures to the point I started to become one and start writing in first person. …show more content…
I love this part within the story, it shows the level of naturalist’s love and admiration for these animals, which made the narrator felt as though he was forever an axolotl, and believed that if he has the ability to think as a man, then nothing separates the axolotl as well. The narrator is projecting himself into these creatures, I was able to understand both the character and situations in the story because of the magical realism that was being portrayed; I had an idea of what I was looking for. However if I had no idea about magical realism, then I would definitely struggle with the character and
