The Aztecs were located on Meso-America, they came from North America. Mexico City is also built where Tenochtitlan was located. They were surrounded by mountains in the Valley of Mexico.They had unique temples and palaces. The faced other problems such as other tribes living in the area and this made it hard to settle down. The surrounding area was very swampy and had little level land to farm. One of the ways they advanced in farming was building chinampas, or raised garden beds, that helped them succeed and increase their population.

Farming was a struggle for them at the beginning, but they developed a raised garden bed called a chinampa. With these raised garden beds spread throughout the lake, they grew crops such as corn, squash, and chili peppers. They also hunted in the water and around the surrounding areas. With the chinampas, the crops became abundant and the population grew leading to new communities. They dug canals and built bridges to advance trade.

The Aztecs had 4 social classes. The nobles, the artisans, the commoners, and the slaves. The Aztecs were mostly hunter-gatherers. They weren’t very organized, but ran the government and the army. Though there were four classes, women's roles were very limited.
Followed a social hierarchy, which mainly consisted of government and military leaders, high level priests, and lords.
