“On 20 April 2010, the British Petroleum(BP) Deepwater Horizon drilling rig exploded off the coast of Louisiana, killing 11 workers (National Commission on the BP Deepwater Horizon Oil Spill and Offshore Drilling 2011)” (Peres). This drilling rig have about 126 workers that time. This massive explosion happened at about ten at night wherein only the lights of the rig can be seen from a certain distance. About two days after the explosion, the rig was still on fire. Experts suggest that the oil well kept releasing oil and kept the rig on fire. At this point, significant damage can be seen on the ocean surface as tons of oil keeps flowing out the well. “An estimate of about 5 million barrels (National Commission 2011) makes this accident the world’s largest accidental oil spill” (Migliaccio).
