COURSE DESCRIPTION:
This course introduces corporate financial management and covers financial analysis, optimizing operating and financing strategies, time value of money, risk and return, cost of capital analysis, and basic capital budgeting techniques, including discounted-cash-flow analysis. Funds sources and financial-resource allocation are analyzed. Spreadsheet software packages are used to analyze data and solve case-based problems.

Demonstrate an understanding of the financial manager’s function within the financial and economic environment in which the manager works.
Suggested Enabling Objectives: A. Describe the various types of financial markets and explain the role each plays. B. Explain why a firm should maximize shareholder wealth instead of profit or market share. C. Discuss how the different organizational forms of traditional firms and virtual corporations affect financing activities. D. Define Agency Theory and describe its effect on a modern firm. E. Explain the effect of the internationalization of financial markets on a firm’s financing strategies. F. Describe each of the financial statements and explain their relationship to one another. G. Define and explain the differences between book value and market value. H. Discuss the importance of ethics for financial managers. I. Understand basic corporate tax structure.
2. Given a firm’s need to finance short-term assets, demonstrate the importance of current asset management and the financial strategies available to the financial manager.
