What is the Strategic importance of the DIA project? Will the organization achieve tangible and intangible benefits that justify the financial cost, effort, time and managerial attention (strategic validity)?
The strategic importance of the DIA Project is it’s geographic location and the growing of the economy around it.
By reading the case it’s clear that sone factors in the implementation of the baggage handling system led to the failure of the project : Bad planning and scheduling, too advanced technology, no proper management and lack of communication. The project ended up late and over budget, therefore we can say that the strategic validity was not good enough …show more content…
When BAE started implementing its solution, they had to redesign the whole system and work with plans that did not incorporate it. As a result, the project was really late due to the need of testing and the advanced technology needed.
2 - Time Management
The project was late for one main reason : the construction phase began before the end of the planning and validation phase, that lead to a lot of modifications to the airport layout plan to accommodate and led to a serious loss of time. The project was already short on time due to its complexity, so an underestimated complexity was an assurance of finishing the project late.
3 - Communication
There was a lack of communication between the project team, the city, and the consultants that led to a lot of issues. Leading to extra time for engineers that spent lot if time filling reports rather than working on the project. The tracking system is another example of miscommunication, since none of the groups had one, they all built them from scratch rather than create an unified one (which will be necessary at some point) and that led to time loss due to lack of
