Question 1
a) A hospital emergency room averages 50 patients per shift. A shift is 8 hours long, and the average patient requires 20 minutes in the exam room.
8*60/20 =24 would equal the number of patients for a 8 hour shift
Average number of patients=50
b) Discuss whether you think a 30% capacity cushion is appropriate for a hospital emergency room. What factors would consider when setting this cushion?
A 30%cushion the number of room required would equal (50(1+0.3)/24) =50*1.3/24=2.7 =>3 rooms
1 room would be required to maintain the 30% capacity cushion.
Question 2
a). Determine how many cash registers the restaurant should have if it wishes to maintain a 10% capacity cushion
First we have to break down the 150 customers per hour So if 90 seconds is 1.5 minutes = 1.5/60 hours = .025 hr This would require 150*0.025 = 3.75.
Now that we can’t have 3.75 we must round up to 4 registers ( I wish McDonalds could get the hint lol )
However if we want our 10% cushion we would need 5 cash registers. 150*1.1 = 165, if we use 165, we will have our capacity cushion.
b) Discuss whether you think a 10% capacity cushion is appropriate for a fast food restaurant. What factors would you consider when setting this cushion?
150 customers per hour to me is really a hard number to believe in. Even during the rush hours like lunch and dinner Fast is not always my main concern quality is However based off the questions 5 registers would exceed our 10% 4.25 is the correct number but I have never seen a .25% register Now the cashier that’s a different story.
Question 3
