The Writing Centre started the “You Read You Lead” Campaign this semester which aims to promote reading, whether fictional or educational books, throughout the semester. One way we plan on achieving this is by recognizing the influence of movies on the reading habits of students on campus. Everyone figures that the best way to get wind of and enjoy a good storyline is to watch an awesome movie; but what about getting that amazing story (and the juicier details) not from the movie, but its original source, the book it came from?

This year is all about the book adaptation. Warm Bodies, Beautiful Creatures and World War Z (sort of) were all books first!

Here is our extensive guide to just about every movie turning your favorite book into a live-action wonder. So get out your reading lists so you too can say "the book was better."

Vampire Academy
We know, we know vampires, UGH. But hear us out for one second; Richelle Mead is a great writer. And main character, Rose Hathaway, is a bad ass mother who is also a Dhampir (half human, half vampire). At the academy Rose is trained in the art of protecting vampires and is tasked with protecting her best friend Lissa, a Moroi Vampire Princess. It's 100% not your average girl meets vampire, vampire bites girl supernatural tale. Crazy gorgeous actress Zoey Deutch has been cast as Road and Lucy Fry will play her vampire friend.

Horns
Speaking of the very talented King family, Stephen's son Joe Hill is getting a movie this year starring Harry Potter. Daniel Radcliffe will bring Hill's gothic fiction Horns novel to life, in which he plays main character Ig Perrish, who grows horns after his girlfriend is murdered. And then he uses these magical horns to find out whodunnit. While we're painting a cute picture, this book is crazy bloody (and great).
