Firstly, The strained relationship between Amir and his father Baba demonstrates the necessity of having a compassionate fatherly figure in a child's life. Throughout Amir’s childhood, he desperately tried to acquire his father's attention but Baba did not care to show any interest. Unlike the relationship between Ali and Hassan, Ali paid attention to Hassan and prioritized hassan's life and concerns more than his own. Rahim Khan, who was Baba’s best friend, showed more love and consideration to Amir because he acknowledged Amir for his unique personality. Shown In the beginning of the novel, Baba is emotionally distant from Amir since Amir does not resemble Baba, Baba goes as far as to say "If I hadn't seen the doctor pull him out of my wife
with my own eyes, I'd never believe he's my son.” (Hosseini, 25). Behaviour like Baba’s can put a negative impact on a kid's life, because of Baba’s negativity and lack of attention towards his son, Amir feels unwanted and very downgraded. But after Amir’s long and hard times of struggle to gain Baba’s attention, he had finally obtained it after he had won the Kite tournament; this was an important turning point in the novel. Baba’s love for his son finally struck out but then the incident with Ali and Hassan had left Baba in a negative emotional state. After Ali and Hassan had left, Amir was the only one to comfort Baba, that's when Baba felt the true love of his son. Amir and Baba had built a loyal father son relationship because they only had each other from that point on, Baba and Amir fled to America and there they had showed their importance to each other. Just like Ali and Hassan, Baba and Amir had finally built the relationship of an exceptional relationship because they finally realised that they only had each other. Unlike Ali and Hassan who were loyal to each other ever since Hassan’s birth, Baba did not recognize the importance of family until they came to an oppression. Baba’s dreams had come true, Amir had become a scholar, Amir had made his dad proud and fulfilled all his wishes, Amir brought Baba happiness and love. Baba displayed the definition of good parenting evident in the way he had raised Amir. Even though Baba wasn't the best father in Amir's childhood, he still fulfilled the job of a good father because he left the world as a memorable father for his kid.
