This excerpt is being narrated by Siddhartha in a low tone to Govinda. After Siddhartha and Govinda joined the Shramanas, they immediately embrace the Shramanas way of life. They start dressing in loincloth while becoming empty of ego and dying away from themselves. The duo learned a great deal from the Shramanas and followed the paths of self-extinction while leaving their egos behind. However, the life and teachings of the Shramanas isn’t all that Siddhartha considered it to be. In the quote, Siddhartha discloses to Govinda that what the Shramanas do is the same as what a drinker does; they get away from themselves briefly. Siddhartha’s best quality is his dedication to his quest. He is a young man who knows what he wants and goes after it. He is not bound to any place nor is he dependent on other people unless it is beneficial to his quest for enlightenment. He was not afraid to give up on his wealth or go to Jetevana because he deemed those actions necessary to his mission. This show how dedicated he is and how much such goal means to him. A quality that is quite admirable as it portrays how strong Siddhartha is. On the other hand, a bad quality that Siddhartha has is that he is too independent. He prefers teaching himself…

To solve a condition, or problem, you need a very good solution. What, if anything, can be done to fix the world and your surroundings or even yourself? The solution in the religion of Hinduism is to simply follow a set of paths that will guide one to the right of way, back the One. These paths, or commonly known as margas, include the karma-marga, the path of action, which is simply following religious obligations. The bhakti-marga, or the path of devotion, which is focusing on one's deity. The jnana-marga, or the path of knowledge,…

One of his teachers talk about of the flesh he thought him that I money and nice things were more important than Nirvana. He taught him that money was the most important thing in the world. This reminds me of one of Herman Hesse’s teachers Plato. Plato believed that all things are connected to love including the love of oneself. I believe that Kamala was like Plato I believe she believed in love of oneself and worldly things before her God or Nirvana. I also believe that Kaamaswami believed in money before her got his God or Nirvana. “It has never been my experience that a Samara from the woods should come to me to learn for me. Never has a Samara with long hair an old tour in loincloth comes in the. Many young men come to me including Barhmins’ sons, but they come to me in fine clothes, and find shoes; there is sent in their hair and money in their purse. That is how these young men come to me, O Samara.” This was said by Kamala and this is why I believe that Kamalas…

In the book Siddhartha, he compares meditation to the consumption of alcohol. These two surprisingly have a very similar effect on your state of mind, they take you away from the "real world". While they are similar in that way they are also very different. There are up's and down's to both of these states of mind. Alcohol can be very dangerous and unhealthy to your body. And meditation is a long process of things you do to yourself when there are alternatives, such as alcohol and drugs. Main negative difference being that taking drugs and alcohol is easier. While the positive difference is that when meditating verses drinking, you begin to gain knowledge and stay calm even when not meditating, while once the alcohol wears off you are back to where you started.…

Hare Krishna is the popular name for the International Society of Krishna Consciousness, which is a new religious movement based on Hinduism. It was established in America in 1965-6, in New York City by A.C Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada. What a breathtaking promise!! It is spectacular but true. As Swami’s physical body seems to become smaller and more distant day by day, there is a corresponding exponential growth in His spiritual presence felt in the people around us, be they labelled or unlabelled Sai devotees. More and more we are glimpsing the Divine in the thoughts, words and deeds of those around us. People everywhere seem to be yearning for something more in their lives than material success, it is as if they are just waiting for the opportunity to serve others and will respond to the call in hordes. Many are not even waiting for the opportunity, they are creating their own service projects with a selflessness and zeal which just has SAI written all over it, even if they do not know His physical form. In the same South African newspapers which report unthinkable crime and corruption, we find creeping in regular stories of ‘ordinary’ people with hearts of gold, reaching out to the orphans,…
