She sees that he has a bruise on his face, with the mother reporting it was from his older brother hitting him with a toy. Brandon’s mom also tells the nurse that her husband has been getting angry lately due to the stress of Brandon’s endless crying. In addition, her husband has put his hands on her by pushing but nothing more. Following the initial visit, the mother reports bruising on Brandon’s face as well as the father being angry and pushing her. The nurse, using her clinical judgment, brings up to the mother about safe places to go. Furthermore the situation begins to worsen and the third visit prompts the mother to bring Brandon in for a torn frenulum in addition to bleeding in his mouth. She says that the dad “accidentally bumped heads” with Brandon while feeding. During the final emergency room visit, Brandon is brought in because he had experienced seizures and unresponsiveness earlier in the day. The clinical judgment was the obvious domestic violence. In essence, without being too forward and using her intuition the nurse able to help the mother by being indirect regarding the reality of the situation. She suggests safe places to go, gives her resources and makes home visits in an effort to help her because she knows what is
