Babysitters Vs Nanny
Considering that a babysitter or nanny is entrusted with the care of the most important person in your life, it's only understandable that you put much thought into the process of searching for the right person for the job. And while cost highly influences your choice, it shouldn't be at the top of your priority list for this service because you want to ensure that your children are well cared for even while you're away. Hourly rates for babysitters or nannies will vary across different types of caregivers. To give you an idea on how much you should shell out for this service, read on.

Nanny hourly rates

The former is somebody who stays with the children and is employed over a longer period. The nanny generally manages the children whether or not the parents are around, but most especially when they are out of the house. She usually comes with significant training in childcare so it's only logical that she gets paid more. A full-time nanny's rates can range from $350 to $700 a week. Minimum hourly rate all over the country can range from $5 to $20.

Reasonable pay for babysitters

A babysitter, on the other hand, is somebody who takes care of the kids when the parents are not around. Her job is not as regular as a nanny's although parents tend to hire the services of the same sitter frequently. A babysitter will only be required when parents have to leave the house for events where they can't bring their children with them - e.g. to go out with friends on a Saturday night, or for a meeting that would last late in the evening.

Again, the rates vary among states. In Columbia, Missouri for instance, where cost of living is one of the lowest in the US, the average pay rates for babysitters is $8.50 per hour for taking care of one child. New York City, one of those with the highest cost of living, charges an average of $13 an hour for babysitting

In home care is known as family child care it typically is provided by nannies, au pairs, or friends and family. The child is watched inside their own home or the caregiver's home, reducing exposure to outside children and illnesses. Depending on the number of children in the home, the children utilizing in-home care enjoy the greatest amount of interaction with their caregiver, forming a close bond. There are no required licensing or background checks for in-home care, making parental vigilance essential in choosing an appropriate caregiver. Nanny and au pair services provide certified caregivers and the cost of in-home care is the highest of childcare options per child, though a household with many children may find this the most convenient and affordable option. Many nannies study towards childcare qualifications. This means they are trained to create a safe and stimulating environment for your child to enjoy and thrive in. Typically, au pairs or nannies provide more than routine child care, often assisting with daily household activities, including running errands, shopping, doing laundry, fixing meals, and cleaning house.…

    The Daycare Generation

For centuries we have seen our family unit only one way; with the father going off to work, and the mother staying home with the children. All the way back to the beginning of humans it has been this way. Lately however, this is all changing. With women 's lib came the "new woman". She wants to do everything a man can do including having a career. The only problem is, there is no one to stay home to raise the children if mom goes off to work. The need for daycare has risen sharply as more moms are choosing to work rather than stay home. As a result, the family unit is growing apart. According to the National Association of Child Care Resource and Referral Agency, over 20 million children ages 0-12 are in full time child care this year in the United States. Many of our children are now spending most of the day away from their home and family, and because of this, are not able to experience the values of close family bonds that our grandparents and great-grandparents had. If we wish to preserve our family ties and bonds, we should take steps toward bringing the family unit back together. The first step should encourage families to let children stay home with mom when they are young, and not put them in a daycare.…

The National Statistics Office (NSO) census of 2001, for the first time gathered information about the provision of unpaid care givers. Just over 1% of children aged between 5 and 15 years provided unpaid care, this equates to 114,000 children. 9,000 children which represent 8% of young carers were identified as providing care for 50 hours or more a week. Aldridge (2007) indicates this figure rises to 175,000 when all children aged 18 and below are identified. Frank (2002) however, stressed for reasons to be discussed further in this essay, that the number of young carers may be much greater. The average age of a young carer is 12 years old, 54% of carers live in lone parent families and 12% of carers, care for more than one person with 25% receiving no other professional support except for that from young carer’s projects (Deaden & Becker 2004). The projects such as The Princess Royal Trust for Carers, The Children’s Society and Carers UK are generally funded through Local Authorities.…
