Background of the Maxis Berhad Ananda Krishnan is the owner of Maxis Berhad, owning RM8.8 billion revenue in 2010. In Malaysia, Maxis is the top ranking company in providing telecommunication services. There are more than 3200 employees working in Maxis Berhad. Maxis headquarter was located at Maxis Tower, Kuala Lumpur. The dialling prefixes that used by Maxis company are “012”, “017”, “014-2”, and “011-12”.
Maxis has get a license to run a nationwide GSM 900 mobile network in 1993. In August 1995, Maxis starts its mobile businesses and in early 1996 Maxis commenced its fixed line and international gateway operation. Maxis had introduced the most popular prepaid brand “Hotlink” in 1999. After Maxis already purchased Timecel, a rival mobile services provider from TimedotCom Berhad, Maxis offered phone numbers beginning with 012 and TimeCell 017. Then, customers can choose between these two numbers. In 2007, Maxis was expanded into Indonesian and Indian markets and it is offered by Ananda Krishnan, who pledged Maxis RM17.46 billion for all the remaining shares of the company. In 2009, Ananda Krishnan has to re-list his company in Bursa Malaysia on 11th of November, under the urging of Malaysia’s Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak. Besides, 3G service was first introduced by Maxis Berhad, such as 3G connect Card, PC Webmail, Video Mail and 3G prepaid. 3G services offered by Maxis Berhad allowed Maxis user to enjoy the entertainment and communication services like video calls, live mobile TV, games and wireless broadband Internet. Businessman would prefer using Maxis 3G plans because they can check anything online and Maxis was the first to introduce 3G. Therefore, most of them will use the postpaid line offered by Maxis. Value Plus 50, Value Plus 80 and Value Plus 150 are the examples of postpaid line offered by Maxis where the different packages for different customers depending on their needs. Registered in February, 2002 as a wholly owned subsidiary of Green Packet Bhd., Packet One (P1) only started doing business following its acquisition of one of Malaysia’s four WiMAX licenses in March, 2007. The license granted P1 access to 30Mhz of spectrum in the 2.3Ghz band. Following its spectrum acquisition, P1 moved quickly to form a series of strategic alliances aimed at getting its WiMAX network off the ground as quickly and efficiently as possible.
