Summary
Bagby Copy Company a worldwide producer of copy machine ((Brickley, Smith, & Zimmerman pg. 447). They manufacture 10 different models worldwide and the machines require wiring bundles to connect the scanner and units (Brickley, Smith, & Zimmerman pg, 447). A group of employees are set out to manage the tasks for each copier and there are also 10 subgroups to ensure the wire is not harness (Brickley, Smith, & Zimmerman pg., 448). Bagby is determined of in out the trade-offs within the task assignments and the decisions rights for managing manufacturing and sale of a particular copier throughout Europe.
1. What are the trade-offs that Bagby faces in choosing between specialized and broad task assignment?
There are costs and benefits when choosing specialized task assignments. Bagby can use a comparative advantage of specialized task assignments. Individuals that are hired to create wire harness and will complete the task that they are set out to do. The individual groups are matched with their jobs based on the training …show more content…
This will also entails employees learning their specific task given to them and at the same time gain expert knowledge of their job functions. This will eventually allows the employees to create a well-designed pathway in their careers. I also think that Bagby would be benefited from the subgroup of functional task because they have the upper advantage of the economic scope. Because of the specialization of the U-form structure it will save costs due to the organization and able to have the reproduction of wire bundles at a much lower cost.
