My purpose statement was that ballerinas are so much more than twirling around in tutus, hard work and preservation go into making a professional ballerina.

To develop my ideas, I took my audience along on the journey of a up and coming ballerina. I informed them on what it took to become a professional dancer and the skills and tools you will need. I ordered my ideas to symbolise the training of a ballerina.

I used my sources to prove how long it takes for a ballerina to become a professional and I also used sources for my quotes and diagrams. I used my sources to inform

By all but one definition, Misty Copeland, is an unlikely ballerina. According to dance legend George Balanchine, “the perfect ballerina has a small head, sloping shoulders, long legs, big feet, and a narrow rib cage”. Despite fitting this description, she recounts in a number of response letters received from dance tryouts that she “lacked the structure”, “had the wrong body for ballet” and was “too old to be considered”. It seemed as though the dance world had in its mind another idea of what a prima ballerina should be. Rejection letter after another exclaimed she simply would not fit.…

Copelands dream of becoming a ballerina felt surreal as a little girl until she saw many dancers just like her on shows being televised. This gave Copeland hope and encouragement to not back down and to keep fighting to break down the stereotypical barrier between her and her passion. Copeland continues to discuss how she wishes there were more people like her when she was growing up as a role model to follow in the footsteps of to not lose faith. Something dawned upon Copeland when pondering about what she can do to spread the word of the diversity she has created in the dance world to not give up on yourself and your future based on the color of your skin or any other prejudice factor. Copeland created a Barbie Doll of herself to break through to more dancers like herself to give them motivation that they can do anything they set their mind to and there is no such thing as a perfect ballerina which the view of is long gone.…

There is something pretty ironic, that for a girl who likes to speak as much as she does, Erica has been getting a bad case of laryngitis since last spring break. Too much partying and screaming? When I first sat down with her, the cliché was making its way into my mind, as the young 19 years old girl is barely out of high school. However, while this mean MDMA and freedom for some, Erica Rizzo is a completely opposite number. She actually gets her kick through communication.…

Sloths are the six species of medium-sized mammals belonging to the families Megalonychidae and Bradypodidae, part of the order Pilosa. They are arboreal residents of the rainforests of Central and South America. The sloth's taxonomic suborder is Folivora, while some call it Phyllophaga. Both names mean "leaf-eaters"; the first is derived from Latin, the second from Greek. Names for the animals used by tribes in Ecuador include Ritto, Rit and Ridette, mostly forms of the word "sleep", "eat" and "dirty" from Tagaeri tribe of Huaorani, in Brazil sloths are commonly called "Bicho-preguiça" ("lazy animal") because of slow movements related to their very low metabolism.…

When I turned three, my mom signed me up for my first ballet class, and I loved it. Moving along to the music brought me joy and fulfillment. My liking for it has gradually grown into a passion. But over the years, I have also noticed a stigma for extreme competitiveness and perfectionism. Something that originally began as a form of worship has transformed into a celebration of the superficial and frivolous. Dancing often creates many concerns for young performers.…

Attention- getter: What would you do if somebody came into this classroom and pointed a gun at you as if they were going to kill you for no reason? First thing that would come to mind is, “Am I really going to die right now” and “Why is a person on campus with a gun trying to kill people?” Sad part is, an event like this has happened many times in the past. For instance, the Sandy Hook Elementary School mass shooting as well as the Colorado movie theatre shooting that all took place within the past year[example]. These mass shootings have brought up the issue of controlling who is able to purchase guns and if it is safe and necessary to roam around in public armed with a weapon.…

On a crisp late October afternoon in Paris Bernard Arnault, Europe's richest man, is talking about his upcoming trip to one of the fastest-growing outposts of his LVMH empire: Mongolia, of all places. "I like to see the reaction of the people in the shops," says the 61-year-old mogul in lightly accented but supple English. Dapper and slim, he wears a navy suit and matching tie made by his flagship fashion label, Christian Dior ( CHDRF.PK - news - people ), and handmade black loafers by Berluti, one of the lesser known but most exclusive of the 60-plus brands in his stable. "I also like to see the competition," he adds. "I am quite competitive. I want to stay ahead and increase our advance."…
