Bethesda, Maryland is a lovely city with a rich culture and history. Performance spaces like the Strathmore play host to performers of every type, including The National Philharmonic and the US Navy Band. As vibrant as Bethesda's arts scene is its culinary landscape. Whether you're in the mood for a classic burger, flavourful Thai food, or sophisticated Mediterranean tapas, you're sure to find it in Bethesda. Some of the top dining options include Mon Ami Gabi for French classics like steak frites and escargot, and Duck Duck Goose for delicious small bites and unique cocktails. I decided to interview Lindy Swimm for this assignment because she lives and has been working in Charlottesville, Virginia for 30 years. This was exceptionally useful because upon graduation I desire to live in Charlottesville. In Charlottesville the average salary for an LCP who holds a Master’s of Science in Counseling is $54,750. This can fluctuate with certain certifications, years of experience, and whether you’re working for a company or a private practice. Counseling careers are prevailing across the U.S. as a whole, the demand is steadily increasing; however, funding is being cut for facilities nationwide. Charlottesville is a rather liberal town, being said there is a specific demand for expressive/creative therapy due to the high…
Henderson is the second most populous city in Nevada, and the community is developing at a rapid rate. Despite the rapid growth, developers have not sacrificed quality. Henderson has beautiful master-planned communities. The city is well-known for its breathtaking views of the nearby mountains during the day. At night, lights from the Vegas Strip illuminate the city.…
The current housing crisis in Maryland has devastated much of the inner city of Baltimore and surrounding counties. The economic collapse of 2008 has left many Maryland residences unemployed or underemployed. The direct impact of the economic collapse has left homeowners wondering how they will pay their mortgages and keep food on the table. Maryland homeowners have been struggling to make ends meet. Some of the issues that are being faced have to do with the predatory lending practices of some mortgage lenders. President Obama signed an agreement to bailout some banks in hope to spare families from losing their homes. Those hopes did not pan out well. There was another bailout of $25 billion dollars allotted in Feb 2012 to help homeowners and reduce mortgages to the principal home values. Thus far the mortgage industry has done as little as possible to hold up their end of that bargain. We need to get educated and hold these predatory lenders accountable.…
I am a godparent of an 8-year-old little girl. Before I moved to Houston our bond was tight and still is even though we are miles away. Every day we talk or Skype on the phone. When she has homework that she does not understand she will Skype me and we will do her homework together. Every summer for two weeks she comes to see me or I will go home to see her. As much as I can, I step in and provide when her mother needs help. As she gets older I am sure our connection will continue to grow.…
Remember when we heard of the promises of this New World in Boston? Remember when you laughed right at seeing the poster? Do you remember when you called it “simply a big bunch of hogwash “? You may want to change your mind, as this is a truly wonderful place.…
I am outside today with a couple other S.S. Soldiers we saw a Jewish man who had some weird curls so we decided to stop him and surround him and make fun of his hair and outfit. Many of the S.S. Soldiers have taken over homes of the Jews. Also today is the last day for all the Jews to move into the ghetto. While the Jews are walking to the ghetto some kids are standing on the sidewalk while screaming and throwing things at them one girl was even screaming “Goodbye Jews.” Once the Jews got into the Ghetto many of us were sitting or standing in the snow giving all the Jews their cards.…
In my experience, I don’t think I am reluctant to a specific identity. Houston is a very diverse city that people can find almost any type of music genre. In my community there are Hispanic and African American families. The music that is heard is of all kinds from “R&B, Pop music, Reggae, to Cumbia, Bachata and Regional Mexicano.” I have lived in the same community ever since I was born and in my opinion, I have grown up listening to the different types of music genres. This has shaped my identity to be open to different music genres and traditions.…
No one could reach the maximum ability when he or she is uncomfortable. For me being, comfortable means being at home. After living for two years in Boston, leaving it has been one of the hardest decisions I have made. However, I could not stand the idea of staying out of that city, so I decided to come back as soon as I could. As a result, I started looking for schools in Boston to transfer to that had my major. One of the schools I found was Wentworth institute of technology, a university that I have been accepted to, but I could not study there because I did not fulfill the condition, which was a 79 or higher in TOEFL. Thus, I decided to apply to Wentworth Institute of Technology, so I could go back to the place I belong. Also, I chose…
On April 27, 2015 in Baltimore, Maryland, riots erupted. It all started when Freddie Gray was arrested on April 12, 2015, and was severely injured in police custody. Gray later died of the injuries. This was the latest case of police brutality in a long string of incidents. Tensions boiled over after about a week of peaceful protest, and protesters turned to violent actions. Joined by gangs and others seeking to take part in violence, stores were looted, rocks were thrown at police, and property was vandalized by the mob. As the police were not able to control the violent mob, anarchy ensued.…
In 2008, I moved to an apartment in Rockaway Park located in Far Rockaway. I’ll admit, the neighborhood was far from attractive when I first arrived. The rumor mills stirred up a storm suggesting that Far Rockaway was well… “Rough around the edges” for a lack of a better term. Working on Riker’s Island, most of our patients who reside in Queens often came from Far Rockaway, thereby confirming the rumors that the town was riddled with crime, infested with drugs and plagued with anything one might consider rebellious or unscrupulous were true. And on my first day, I got lost and winded up surrounded by… you guessed it, The Projects. That was enough to dither anyone from any potential Real Estate or, in my case, rental agreement – regardless how appealing the offer could be. So why did I agree to move there in spite of the distasteful first impression? Before I can answer that, allow me to dive into the demographic details and…
If I could go somewhere where i've never gone before, where would I go? I would say Atlanta Georgia. The reason why, because of their weather they have and visit the places out there. The top two places that I want to see in Georgia are Georgia Aquarium and Six Flags Over Georgia. I never knew there was a aquarium in a state until I was 6 or 7. I can have more fun in Georgia then I can in Florence. The things that happens in Florence doesn't happen in Georgia. I also want to visit their shopping malls. The history about Georgia just have my attention to visit.…
The day of September 1, I missed class to be with my family in Memphis. My mom wanted everyone in our immediate family to gather together because my brother was leaving for the army. It was such an exciting week because I haven’t been home to see them in about year prior. My brother has recently graduated from high school and also turned 18. I am beyond proud of the person he has become, so to see him all grown up making the decision to leave home brought tears to my eyes.…
Consequently, living in Chicago was complex at times, it was difficult for me living there. Often I miss living there yet I didn’t miss the cold winter I experience. Occasionally, I think about the fun times exploring the City of Chicago, with some of my best friends, and performing popular songs with my brothers..…
On February thirteenth I took a trip to the Tenderloin neighborhood in San Francisco in order to volunteer at the Saint Anthony Foundation dining hall. I checked in with the coordinator and met with the staff and other volunteers before getting briefed on my duties for the night. I was tasked to help set up the emergency shelter for the night for the less fortunate. I welcomed each guest that walks in through the doors and hand each and every one of them a warm blanket. After each guest was accounted for by the coordinator and received a blanket, I was then tasked to help serve dinner with the other volunteers; I was on line duty, mainly responsible for asking each guest what would they like on their plate: The choices that were available were rice, pork and beans, mushrooms and beans, and steamed vegetables. After dinner was…
