Balzer's Analysis
As students at John Brown University reach the 5-week anniversary of starting school, they can become exhausted from the physical strains of classes and college life. Instead of addressing student’s physical weariness, though, Professor Tracy Balzer emphasized student’s recognition of their soul’s weariness. Balzer begged the students to remove any weariness they had in their souls. By feeding their souls with the spiritual foods of the bible and prayer, students can change their weariness into vigor. Taylor Hansen, Freshman at John Brown University, found Balzer's call to rest inspirational. She related the topic to quality of life in this way, “To live our lives fully in the way God wants us to, we need to be rested in both physical and spiritual aspects.” …show more content…
She said she liked to go to chapel to clear her mind and work on her relationship with God. When students feel distant from God, Balzer said they know they have a weary soul. Other symptoms of a weary soul show when students are not being fed spiritually or investing in their relationship with God.
Balzer contrasted student’s brushing off spiritual tiredness verses brushing of physical tiredness. Many students don’t worry or realize how tired their souls are, but are fully aware of the tiredness of their physical bodies.
