In your project this week, you will identify legal, moral and ethical issues as well as develop a 3-step plan for keeping personal and professional ethics separate. Before you begin the project, take a few minutes and think about all of the various issues you have studied this term. Which issues stood out for in your mind? Would you categorize that issue as legal, ethical or moral? Why? Take these thoughts and answer the questions below.

Unit 9 Project Questions: Part I
1. List 2 examples of legal issues affecting healthcare and describe how you determined your choices to be legal issues.
Confidentiality and malpractice are both legal issues today in healthcare. They are both laws that healthcare providers need to follow.
2. Give 2 examples of ethical issues affecting healthcare and describe how you determined your choices to be ethical issues.
Life sustaining procedures and organ donation are examples of ethical issues. If a patient would have a living-will and even though you don’t agree with it, you still have to respect the patient’s wishes and with organ donation you may think another patient needs the organ more than another but you have to follow the rules of the organ donation list.
3. Give 2 examples of moral issues affecting healthcare and describe how you determined your choices to be moral issues.
Religion and health care are examples of moral issues. Certain religions don’t agree with blood transfusions and if you can’t afford health care it should still be provided to you.
4. Describe the impact your own personal ethics may have on your practice as a healthcare professional.
You may not agree on certain procedures or treatments so you need to handle it in a professional way as well as possible.
