The Vietnam War was the U.S’ longest and most exhausting war- the only war the U.S had ever lost, had far-reaching consequences and impact on most American life from the economy, culture to domestic politics and foreign policy- some of which continue to do so today. The Vietnam War was from 1955 to 1975 and fell under 5 different presidents filled with scandals and conspiracy theories. After World War 2, North Vietnam declared itself as an independent nation with Communist Ho Chi Minh and the Viet Minh gaining control over the nation. The Geneva Accords called for a…

The amount of blood and tears shed for this country is ridiculous, considering how unnecessary most of it ended up being. The Vietnam War, which was the longest war since the Cold War, was a war between Southern Vietnam and Northern Vietnam in which the United States became involved in on South Vietnam’s side. It was originally fought because Vietnam wanted to declare its independence from France stating, “Vietnam has the right to be free and independent country and in fact is so already,” but the conflict quickly converted to a civil war between North and South Vietnam (Doc. 1- Declaration of Independence- Democratic Republic of Vietnam). The United States put themselves in the middle of it in hopes of preventing “the countries of Southeast Asia from passing into the communist orbit, and to assist them to develop the will and ability to resist communism from within and without and to contribute to the strengthening of the free world” (Doc 8- Policy Statement about American objectives in Southeast Asia). The Vietnam War only caused more problems for the U.S. and South Vietnam than should have happened though.…

The Vietnam was a war like no other and the nature of the fighting in this war had great impacts on the soldiers. At this time, communism was seen as a great threat, especially by Western countries, and so extreme emphasis was placed on the domino theory that when one country falls to communism, others would follow and that forward defence would be the only solution to this issue. Also during this time, Vietnam was artificially split into the communist South, led by Ho Chi Min who defeated and drove out the French, and the government led South, which was in the power of Diem who was clearly corrupt and had little supporters so the spread of communism was quite likely. In response, American and Australian troops were sent to fight for the South and stop this spread of communism but there were many difficulties.…
The key events that British officials used to create a “master narrative” consists of three events that contributed to the propaganda regime. The series of events were the barbaric acts committed by the German troops during the invasion of Belgium in 1914, The execution of the nurse Edith Cavell, and the sinking of the Lusitania where 1,200 civilians perished. Jo Fox also explains how the use of barbaric weaponry contributed to the effective use of the propaganda. British officials used these events to effectively distribute the propaganda to their population.…

His family was able to get by with a combination of hard work and resourcefulness, but Trung wanted to pursue in higher education. ?By ?78, the height of the boat people escaping Vietnam, we realized that I can never get into school, into university, because of my background,? Trung recalls. The arrangement for Trung?s escape would mean that he could establish himself and the rest of the family could join later. Trung?s family raised enough so he could be in a better country after selling all their furniture, jewelry, trinkets, extra clothes, and everything else not already confiscated by the government.…
Background: The Vietnam War, also consider by many the Second Indochina War, was a war that lasted approximately twenty-one years. Although the Vietnam War had several events that led to the chaos, one of the main causes of the war involved the spread of communism. It was believed by many that communism could spread and the citizens of Vietnam at the time were having conflict with the French colonial, this lead up to the war. This idea was known as the “Domino Theory”. President Eisenhower threatened by the spread of communist decided to send aid to South Vietnam in 1955. The battle ran from April of 1954, until April of 1975.…
The goal of this group was to encourage them to unite together against Japan and France and by 1945 communism dominated in the Viet Minh movement. In August 1945, Japan was defeated by the French and gave them back Vietnam. The Viet Minh reacted by marching into the city of Hanoi and taking power. The French “puppet” ruler Bao Dai abdicated and then invited Ho Chi Minh to form a government. In 1946, the French recognized the Democratic Republic of Vietnam as a Free State, but full independence was not given to Vietnam. The Viet Minh were ready to fight until the end but the French, on the other hand, wanted a quick resolution. The next year the First Indo-China War broke out with Viet Minh choosing guerrilla warfare as the tactic of choice. While war went on in the hillsides, the French decided to establish an alternative Vietnamese government with Bao Dai as head of state. Bao Dai’s new administration, the Republic of Vietnam, was set up in direct response to the fall of China to communism in 1949. Communist China and the Soviet Union both recognized the communist regime of Ho Chi Minh in Vietnam. The United States was initially against the efforts of France to re-colonize Indo-China, for their own economic reasons because they wanted to open the area up to free trade. The creation of the People's Republic of China and the Korean War gave America no choice but to…
