Ahead of his presidency his political career was rather abridged yet impressive. Seven Democrats and eight Republicans contested their respective party’s primary for the senatorial nomination. ”. In May 2002, Obama initiated his campaign efforts by generating a campaign committee; to raise funds and mobilize voters. Obama recruited political media consultant David Axelrod to insure reaching voters and distributing his messages, he officially announced his candidacy in January 2003 . One of the messages that distinguished Obama from his opponents (even in the Democratic Party) was his anti-war policy. Obama expressed his opposition to George w. Bush foreign policy, as Congress was deliberating a resolution to launch war on Iraq. Obama addresses Chicago anti-war rally, declaring that he "don't oppose all wars" but "What I am opposed to is a dumb war. What I am opposed to is a rash war ." His messages appealed to voters, Obama's initially unpopular antiwar stance eventually worked to his political advantage as the war became increasingly unpopular with the passage of time.
