Barks Computer Screens Case: A Market Analysis

Barks Computer Screens Case: A Market Analysis A market analysis is a key component of a business plan and should be conducted every few years due to market and product changes. One important aspect is identifying the supply and demand of a product in the target market. The supply curve is a positive sloping curve because as the price increases so does the quantity of product. The demand curve is a negative sloping curve because as the price increases the demand for the product decreases (Hirschey, 2012). Changes can occur to both curves as changes in the market and economy take place. This will cause the curves to shift either to the left or the right. The supply curve is affected by changes in the economy such as an increase in the prices of material or a natural disaster that would prohibit supply of product. The demand curve is affected by changes in population income, economic outlook, government spending, and real interest rates (McBride, 2008). In the Barks Computer Screens Case, Barks has hired me as a consultant and provides the results of his market analysis. He has found that the functions for supply and demand in his market are: Qd = 157 – 35P + 12.5Pw + 0.1Y and Qs = –120 + 75P – 30Pw + 13PL + 12R. Where: Qd = Demand, Qs = Supply, Pw = Average price of Wides, Y = Income in his market, PL = Price of labor, and R = Is the average humidity level measured in hums. I have assumed the quantities demanded and supplied are a function of price and applied the following conditions: Pw = $6.00, Y = $1,600.00, PL = $9.00, and R = 25.
Demand: Qd = 157 – 35P + 12.5Pw + 0.1Y = 157 – 35P + 12.5(6) + 0.1(1600) = 157 – 35P + 75 + 160 = 392 – 35P.
Supply: Qs = –120 + 75P – 30Pw + 13PL + 12R = -120 + 75P – 30(6) + 13(9) + 12(25) = -120 +75P – 180 + 117 + 300 = 117 + 75R. The following price conditions were used to determine supply and demand market conditions:

    2. Greener Grass Company (GGC) competes with its major competitor, Better Lawns and Gardens (BLG), in the delivery and installing of in-ground lawn watering systems in the prosperous western suburbs of a main east-coast town. Previous year, GGC’s price for the standard lawn system was $1,995 compared with BLG’s rate of $2,100. GGC set up 9,130 systems, or roughly 55% of total sales and BLG set up the remaining. (No doubt, several additional systems were set up by do-it-yourself householders because the components are easily available at hardware shops.) GGC has significant additional capacity-it could easily set up 25,000 systems yearly, because it has all the necessary machines and can easily employ and teach installers. As a result, GGC is thinking about growth into the eastern suburbs, in which the people are less prosperous. In earlier years, both GGC and BLG have set up many hundred systems in the eastern suburbs however typically their sales attempts are met with the reaction that the systems are very costly. GGC has employed you to propose a pricing method for both the western and eastern suburb markets for this coming season. You have approximated two distinct demand functions, as follows:…

The equation that was related to the problem is {x=4000-40p}. In order to find the price the first step: {40p} has to be added; which will place 40p on the left side of the equation. The next step is to place the x on the right side of the equation by negating x. Once (-x) has been applied the equation should look like {40p=400-x}. Then the third step would be to divide everything by 40. After dividing the equation by 40 you will find the price of the equation. The formula for the price should look like (p=100-25x).…

Why would marketers want movement along the demand curve? And how is this achieved? A shit in demand curve is caused by the consumers. Marketers don't want consumers to have different preference(or control) so instead of a shift they want movement along the curve so customers still want the product but at a different price. If customers shift the demand curve the marketers wont know which way its going and company can get an increase or decrease in profit.(Demand curve can shift left(bad) or right(good)) A movement along the demand curve is achieved when price is changed.…

On the other words we can say both affect each other while making changing or little bit movement .So by academic language, if the other factors remain stable, demand is quantity of things which buyers want to purchase according to his requirement at the available price. When we talk about supply, which can be say that the quantity of things and services which is seller want to sell according to market demand (Curtis and Irvine, 2014). When there are more buyers in the market to buy services or goods, but there is not enough recourse to fulfill their demand and the market goes in an inadequate state, It leads to the high prices of the goods. It’s easily visible in the diagram below that, both…
