Mother Teresa was born in 1910 and instantly felt the calling to be a nun and serve through helping the poor. At the age of 18 she joined a group of nuns in Ireland. After 2 years, she was given permission to travel to India. In India, she worked as a teacher but the poverty had a big impact on her which led her to start “The Missionaries of Charity”. This was to look after people no one else would. Also for many years, Mother Teresa and a small group survived on minimal income and food where she often earned begging in India. Her efforts were noticed by locals and Indian politicians.
In 1952 Mother Teresa opened her first home for the dying. This afforded many people the opportunity to die knowing someone cared.
All Mother Teresa’s efforts were done truly off free will. So under the circumstances, unfortunately, Mother Teresa had various health problems as well but nothing stopped her from fulfilling her mission of serving the world of the poor and needy.
The result was the “Missionaries of Charity” had spread throughout the world and in 1965 this society became an International Religious Family by Pope Paul IV. Than by 2013, there were over 700 missions in over 130 countries.
Mother Teresa devoted her life to the need of others around the world.
