In the end of the story, his boss even fired him. Can you believe how hard for a person that had the illness and at the same time, he got fired? In the film, we cannot find the good solution that can fix Bartleby’s problem. Even if Bartleby’s boss knew he always said, “I prefer not to…” is because he was sick, he still cannot hire someone that did not work. If I were Bartleby’s boss, I am not sure I can make a good decision for him, but I will try to understand him first.
Bartleby never said he need help, probably is because it is one of his symptoms. To put it in differently, if people had an illness like Bartleby, it is hard to express what they need, or maybe they didn't even know they had a problem. In addition, after Bartleby’s boss fired him, Bartleby kept staying in the office. This situation gave his boss a hard time.
The solution for his boss is moved the office to the other place. In my opinion, I think as a manager of a company, Bartleby’s boss should not move the workplace because of the difficulty to communicate with his employees.
