They believe that they are guilty because Vanzetti lied about the whereabouts of his friends and guns. Not only this, but he also lied about the reason he was in Bridgewater on May 5th. He stated that he had gone there to collect anarchist literature, but could not give names of anyone he went to see that day or the addresses of the places that he went. Many prosecutors believed that this was a weak explanation. With all these lies building up it started to show “consciousness of guilt.” However, I do not think that slips of the tongue or little white lies are evidence to convict and execute the two men. During the court case Vanzetti eventually told the truth. He testified, saying that he did tell lies about his gun and whereabouts because the United States was in the grip of a Red Scare. He feared for his life, of course he is not going to fully tell the truth if he thinks it will get him or his friends in some type of trouble. Aside from clearing up the lies about his guns/friends, he still stuck to his original story about why he was in Bridgewater. Defense attorney Moore started to look into the case after Vanzetti's execution. He thinks that Vanzetti had gone to Bridgewater with Sacco to pick up a car from Boda's so they could collect dynamite. I personally believe that even though it is almost one hundred years since this trial ended, we as American's still have not moved past using race, religion, or social status in our justice system. If you look into the OJ Simpson trial the exact same thing was happening. Everyone was focused on the fact that he was African American and famous. That should not have been a factor in his case or in Sacco and Vanzetti's case. They were innocent. If someone believes they are guilty, they are too focused on the lies that were cleared, the witnesses that were too far away to see, and the jury and prosecutors that were prejudiced against Italian
