At one minute after midnight, the Red Sox closed out the Yankees 10-3 in Game 7 when Ruben Sierra grounded out to second base. Nothing whacky happened. No ball through someone's legs, no errant throw, no sudden breeze from the supposed ghosts of Yankee Stadium. Just a simple throw by Pokey Reese to first and the Red Sox were the American League champions.…
The Washington Post news article, “Stephen Strasburg Shutdown” discussed the Washington nationals decision that manager mike Rizzo made prior to the season start to shut down the former number 1 pick, there ace Stephen Strasburg after he reached the 160 innings pitch mark no matter where they were in the postseason race, they were shutting him down for the remainder of the season. This created controversy around the sports world for the whole year of 2012 and is still being talked about on sports talk shows today. The nationals finished the regular season with the best record in the major leagues and a lot of that success was because of #37. He carried the pitching staff all year with a stellar 15-6 record with a 3.16 earned run average while leading the national league in strikeouts. Also he was the frontrunner for the CY young award which is the best pitcher in there respected leagues (American/National).…
The game of baseball itself had not changed much since it first started. The pitcher throws the ball, batter hits the ball, and fielder catches the ball. However, the New York Yankees baseball organization has. They are and still known for their deep pockets, legendary athletes, and being in the spot light. Without those qualities former players would not recognize what the team has become today.…
Ruth hit 54 home runs giving fans another look at what baseball really is about. “In fact, he ended up hitting 54 and got the fans so excited that the Yankees had to build a new ballpark to accommodate them all” (Murphy). The new stadium had given the fans an opportunity to possibly catch the ball from a game savior. If Babe Ruth did not hold up his bargain with the many home runs, there would not be any baseball fans. The new ballpark gave fans the courage to be able to be close to the team and possibly see all the players in action. “He emerged as a superstar and established the sport as America’s pastime” (Stromberg). Ruth gives baseball a different meaning now ever since his contribution. Baseball is now looked at differently because of how Ruth impacted on it. Babe Ruth has changed baseball for the good of it and by keeping his promise to the fans.…
Everyone knows or has heard about the much heated and hated rivalry between the New York Yankees and the Boston Red Sox. The Yankees Red Sox rivalry is one of the sports worlds greatest of all times. This rivalry has been going on for over 100 yrs. Some would say that it all started when the Red Sox sold then superstar George “Babe” Ruth to the Yankees; when he was added to the Yankees’ line up it became known as “Murderers’ Row” with the likes of Low Gehrig, Mark Koenig, Tony Lazzeri and Earle Combs (Wikipedia.org).…
The year was 1919. The Chicago White Sox were on a winning streak. All White Sox fans were confident in their team’s talent and capability to beat their World Series competition, the Cincinnati Reds. Their performance was disappointing to their fans, coaches, and even a few oblivious White Sox players. Although many were surprised, gamblers and multiple White Sox team members were not. The players, who were nicknamed the Black Sox, had everything figured out. In 1919, a team known as the Black Sox changed the way baseball is supposed to be played, leading to an inauthentic win.…
Well in all honesty since 2009 that Yankees have not done squat in to get us another championship, thanks to Arod, and Godzilla (Hideki Matsui) for making that happen for us. Of course others contributed, but really we the fans know who back we rode all the way to becoming world champions in 2009. So my friends, the house that Ruth built is no more; but the legacy of the Yankees continue, but in corporate way! Until my next post, enjoy and be…
For the first time the Chicago White Sox were playing the Cincinnati Reds in the 1919 Major League Baseball World Series. While the Reds finished eight games above Chicago, the “Sox” were still heavy favorites because of their solid pitching rotation, gold-glove infield, and power hitting outfield led by Joe Jackson. Yet when pre-game betting odds quickly switched from Chicago to Cincinnati, many cynics, including future commissioner, Kenesaw Mountain Landis, immediately grew wary. When the Reds blew out the Sox ace Cicotte for nine runs, and after a 4-2 loss by the White sox in Game 2, people immediately knew something was wrong. The White Sox would go on to lose the Series 3 games to 5.…
As of the 112th edition of the MLB World Series this November has just occurred, the accursed Chicago Cubs, who have not won the World Series since 1908, have just defeated the bold runner-up, the Cleveland Indians, in a seven-game nail-biting excursion, barely edging them out with style. The game is settled and the pleasantries have been exchanged, but the question most fans are asking is which teamed truly deserved it. It appears that the Cubs have earned their glorious victory, but maybe the Indians or the city of Cleveland needed it more. Maybe Chicago did. This is a dispute under cover that has yet to be resolved.…

One week later, as our bus drove out of the parking lot headed for Oklahoma City; our stomachs were full of butterflies and anticipation. We were anxious to bring home another state championship to Broken Arrow. We thought our hopes were dashed when we lost our second game and went to the losers’ bracket. We regrouped and went on to win the next game. I set my mind to play my best and did my job as a senior leader to both hit well and play great defense at first base. After two more exciting, exhausting, nail-biting battles, the Broken Arrow…
