Answer: In chapter one, there was only one piece of art that really got my attention. That piece of art was “Basket Ferry” by Ando or Utagawa Hiroshige on page 19. I love art that has a realistic but simplistic style. In “Basket Ferry” you can understand what is going on in the picture and it is very beautiful. However, the artist does not go in-depth with designing specific features of the picture. This gives it a very calm and simplistic style, which I tend to like very much. I find art like “The Birth of Venus” (Page 6) to be very off-putting. I don’t enjoy the extreme detail of facial/body features, as I see them as creepy and off-putting. However, I would like to say that I mean no disrespect to the artists or artwork of individuals who paint in this style. I know that it must be grueling and painstakingly difficult work to paint such detailed features. This is just something that I personally have never enjoyed.

These emotions generally depended on the art’s visual depiction and the memory’s that the art provoked. A great of example of what I mean by this, is the artwork called the “Abduction of the Daughters of Leucippus” created by Peter Paul Rubens (Page 19). This painting fills me with feelings of disgust, as I believe it to be a depiction of rape. A family member of mine escaped an attempted rape many years ago and every time I see depictions of rape in art or film, I feel a deep sense of disgust and sorrow. Another example of an art piece that created strong feelings inside of me is “Basket Ferry” (Page 19). This Art-piece made me feel quite happy and calm as it’s simplistic style reminds me of old VCR cartoons I used to watch as a
