PD Penitentiary
PD Penitentiary is a moderate security prison. At the PD Penitentiary our main goal is to rehabilitate troubled teens and young adults between the ages of 18 and 25. The PD penitentiary is a male penitentiary located on Douglas island, British Columbia. It offers psychological therapy to help tackle the root causes behind the crimes the committed, and to provide problem solving techniques to help cope with their development. It has been proven that the male mind is not fully developed until the age of 25, without a fully developed brain, males have difficulty making decisions and are more likely to make more negative than positive ones. It is a minimum security prison situated on an island. It used to be an all boys juvenile detention center in the early 1900’s called Bastoy Boys Home. In the year of 1915 the boys started a riot, due to the brutal way the boys were being treated. The riot got so bad that the national guard was called to settle things down. The Bastoy Boys Home was later shut down in 1970. Bastoy Prison was opened in 1982. Bastoy is known for their new age take on prisons with their prisoners living in cabins and horseback riding. There are 69 prison employees with only 5 of them staying over night. The prison has 80 buildings,roads and beach zones. All of the Inmates work on a farm learning about livestock and agriculture. This facility hosts prisoners from all over the world, ranging from dangerous to highly dangerous criminals. Halden’s criminals vary from rapists, murders and child molestors to common drug offenders. Sex offenders who may face brutality from other inmates, and prisoners who need closer supervision are located in Unit A of the prisoners accommodation. There are different units for the various needs and offences of the inmates. At the Halden Prison rehabilitation is encouraged through activities such as sports and music. These activities are recommended because it is believed that if prisoners participate in diverse programs then they are less likely to be violent.
