Battle Drills 1 and 2
The first battle drill is, Conduct a Platoon Attack. For this battle drill an enemy squad is either set up in a defensive position or is advancing to the platoons front. All the planning, preperation and movement has already been doneand the platoon is ordered to attack the enemy. The platoon is aware of the enemys location and it is not a surprise attack. Also the platoon has to accomplish its task within the guidlines of the commanders orders wether that be to kill, capture or force the enemey to withdrawl. There are 5 parts to conducting a platoon attack, the first is Action on
Enemy Contact. The platoon initiates contact and the platoon leader directs when and how his fire element will begin the attack. Upon the start as said from the platoon leader, you will begin contact with a high casualtyproducing weapon. The squad marks the engagement area with IR strobes (MTETTC dependent), while the squad leader uses the AN/PAQ4 to designate enemy positions, crewserved weapons, and vehicles. Soldiers focus on the squad leader's laser as well as the team leader's tracers to engage targets. If the enemy initiates contact, the squad in contact reacts to contact as well as attempts to achieve suppressive fire with one fire team and maneuvers the other team to attack the enemy in the flank. The team providing suppressive fires marks its flanks by throwing ir chemlight bundles or ir flares and continues to place wellaimed, accurate fires on the enemy. The squad member will employ M203 and handheld ir smoke to cover the assaulting teams movement. The squad leader notifies the platoon leader of his actions and how the assault is proceeding. The platoon leader, his RTO, the platoon FO, the squad leader of the next squad, and one machine gun team move forward to link up with the squad leader of the squad in contact. The squad leader of the trail squad moves to the front of his main fire team.
