In The Battle of Glorieta Pass, the Union and the Confederates fought in the northern part of New Mexico territory, which is now part of Colorado. The battle started on March 26, 1862 and lasted for three days; in effort for the Confederates to get their hands on Colorado’s valuable mines. The Confederates desperately needed the resources to provide the right tools for their Army, but they ended up losing the battle. What if they had not lost the battle and what really happened.
If the South had won the battle of Glorieta Pass their plan was to stay in Colorado and collect the valuables in Colorado’s mines such as gold and silver. Then with all of the gold and silver assets they planned to reinforce their
troops with items such as better rifles, and shoes. The next part of their plan was to head west towards California and Arizona. If the South had been able to successfully move their troops to other territories, I believe that the war would have lasted another 5 to 10 years. If they had settled in Arizona and California they would have gotten more resources and could have ended up winning the war with gold and the land they stole from the Union Territories, and the south was planning on recruiting soldiers from the Mexican- American War so that they could get more troops to help fight the union.
What really happened was three regiments lead by Henry Sibel. Henry Sebel headed west from Sanitone, Tx to New Mexico so he could invade Fort Craig and with a force of 3800 men to Fort Craig, and they took it with ease. When Sebel and his troops ceased Fort Craig they also found 40 days worth of supplies that the Union had left when Sebel attacked for Craig. Many of the Residents of the Capital fled in fear of the Souths Prescence
