Battle Royale And Huston's Sweat

Imagery used by Ellison and Huston Here ,I am going to discuss how imagery is used in both Ellison's " Battle Royale " and Zora Huston's " Sweat ". Both Ellison and Huston use imagery in their works to make the readers feel the events with all their senses and to add a layer of deeper symbolic meaning to the text. The titles of the works and the name of the main characters in both works are the most important imagery in both of them . They direct us all over the two works to become engrossed in the story in the way the writers want . In the next paragraphs ,I am going to write about that and about the other examples of imagery in the two works. As for Ellison's "Battle Royale " , the title itself conveys that there is a battle between the black and the white people and tells that this battle is of the long kind .He says in the story that it may stay for centuries . The grandfather's scenes at the beginning and at the end of the story emphasize that this long battle is inherited from ancestors to descendents . The narrator of the story sets imagery about himself . He calls himself invisible to declare that he is neglected . Moreover , he deals with her badly . The name of the main character Delia makes the reader look at this women as the wild flower Dalia that should be dealt with gently . The snake brought by Sykes to make Delia scared represents the natural evil of men . It refers to the masculine controlling over the feminine . That snake becomes hungrier which refers to a nearby trouble that kills him
