It has 2 dimensions: Market share and Market growth. The basic idea behind is that the bigger the market share a product has or the faster the product’s market for the better it is for the company . 1. Stars(=high growth, high market share) Use large amounts of cash and are leaders in the business so they should also generate large amounts of cash. Frequently roughly in balance on net cash flow. However if needed any attempt should be made to hold share, because the rewards will be a cash cow if market share is kept. 2. Cash Cows(=low growth , high market share) Profits and cash generation should be high, and because of the low growth, investments needed should be low. Keep profits high. 3. Foundation of a company

Another preliminary analysis for a company is the Business Portfolio Matrix. The first step in the business portfolio matrix is to identify any division that can be considered a business. Once all divisions (SBU’s) have been identified, the matrix can be used to measure their performance. The matrix depends on two business indicators: The vertical indicator, “market growth rate”, refers to the annual rate of growth of the market in which the division is located. The horizontal indicator, “relative market share”, illustrates the division’s market share. It ranges from low to high relative share of the market.…

For the purpose of this report, the BCG Box will be used. The BCG Box uses two dimensions, market share and market growth. The basic idea is that products with high market share or placed in industries with a large market growth are beneficial for the firm. By dividing the matrix into four areas, 4 types of SBU can be distinguished. These include, stars (relatively strong position in a market with high growth), cash cows (leaders in a mature market that produce a higher return than the cash expended), question marks (low market share in high growth markets which require high levels of investment) and dogs (low market share in unattractive, low growth industries). Common strategic thinking suggests that there are four strategies for each SBU. These are build share (investment to increase market share), hold (invest an adequate amount to retain market position of SBU), harvest (reduce investment to benefit…

Analysing the relationship between the BCG matrix and the product of Kinkead, market share and market growth are the considerable reason to measure. Kinkead’s products are grouped into two main product lines which are electric meters(EM) and electric instruments(EI). First, for the EM product, according to template, the variance of the size of the market is unfavorable, the size of the market because their budget is 800000, but the actual market size of 650000, it does not implement the expectations. The EM market share difference to 0, with 10% constant of the actual and budgeted position, it will not change. Therefore, they are a cash cow. Therefore, EM is the Cash Cow. Additionally, the Kinkead has been a leading Australia firm, and EM is the older but still dominant technology. Followed by EI table EI of the variance of the size of the market for 374,464 budgets, the size of the market for 250,000, lower than the actual market size of 363,500, more than expected. The market share variance is 241,321 Unfavorable which has decrease from 10% to 8%. Therefore, EI is question mark. In addition, EI's future is uncertain, because from the case it says EI technology is new and still experimental.…
