Be Cool to the Pizza Dude
I really liked this essay because it was a personal creed based on life experience and taught me a lot about being respectful and kind and valuing honest work. I really liked how she divided her believes and thoughts into principles. Also, my impression after reading this essay was strong based on author’s well-focused thesis, organized and engaging paragraphs. Her well focused thesis grabbed my attention and I was engaged with the essay. She started with “ Be cool to the pizza delivery dude; it’s good luck.” She was able to get all her believes in one sentence and bring it to audience. I never read about pizza dude’s before, so for me it was something new.
The author made it affective by expressing her pizza dude philosophy with four principles.
In her principles she uses pizza dude as an example of how to improve our character or behavior and treat others in the way we want to be treated. Her each principles were well organized with clear thesis and supporting evidence. All her evidence were personal which made it very interesting.
Principle #1 – Coolness to the pizza delivery dude is a practice in humility and forgiveness. In this principle she wants us to be calm, while we drive and just to have human kindness.
Principle #2 – Coolness to the pizza dude is a practice in empathy. For this credo she tells us how we have all taken jobs just to have a job to make some money. Life can be hard, and anyone who has been in this situation knows that this is type of job you take to survive.
Principle #3- Coolness to the pizza delivery dude is a practice in honor, and it reminds me to honor honest work. She compares the pizza dude with a CEO who can bring a company to bankruptcy and leave 20,000 people unemployed.
