Beatitudes And Ten Commandments
When comparing and contrasting The Beatitudes: Mt 5:1-12 and The Ten Commandments there are an abundant amount of similarities and differences. A majority of these passages are involving being faithful to God and he will show mercy on you. He also seems to be saying if you stand by him you will be rewarded in heaven. To start off, the 11th Beatitude says, “Blessed are you when people insult you, persecute you and falsely say all kinds of evil against you because of me. In tenth Commandments God also states that “You shall have no other gods before me.” in the third commandment. The fourth and fifth commandment also relates to the topic of being loyal to God by stating “You shall not make for yourself an image in the form of …show more content…
These are all things that most people really respect and honor. Some people fail at trying to follow these commandments and commit crimes and dishonor their mother and father and will be punished by God. Families pass these values down generation to generation and instill them in their children in hopes they will bring their children up they same way they were. God wants us all to become respectful, honest, loyal, human beings and to spread the word of God.

In the story of Moses and the Burning Bush, Moses was keeping a flock of his father-in-law when he spotted a burning bush the angel of the Lord appeared to him in the flame of the burning bush. God told him to lead the Israelites out of Egypt. God explained to Moses I am who I am. In the book “ How Do Catholics Read The Bible (Harrington 5) Reading the Old Testament, it is said that Jews refer to what Christians call “The Old Testament” as “Tanakh” or “the Bible”. The three most prominent replacements are the Hebrew Bible, the Jewish Scriptures, and the First Testament. They say half of the problem is today’s concept of “new” and “old”. It is sad some refer to old as a bad thing and new as good. In each case God calls on a person to a mission that they will find challenging and he tests the faith of this person but reassures them along the way of his presence. God will remain faithful to his people even when they are unfaithful to God, and that is why God is so

The Ten Commandments show us what good is according to God. The Ten Commandments explain to us how we should act and what our religious and social duties should be. God could be said to be showing his love for this through these laws. Another common biblical image of God is that of a judge to whom we all answer to, however, if God is seen as a judge “Psalms 75:7 But God is the Judge; He puts down one and exalts another,” then he must be trying to divide the good from the bad, we could see this as God trying to protect the people who worship him from the sinners, however it is hard to distinguish the bad from the good. The Ten Commandments offer a guide for this, so that we can see what is wrong and what is right, so therefore we could see this as a good act of God as throughout the Bible God demonstrates his desire for justice for his people. People may follow the Ten Commandments because they are scared of the possibility of going to Hell or that they are so full of faith for the Lord that they follow them without thinking, that if it is the wish of God then they must act and follow these rules. The Old Testament displays God as being vengeful and punishing those who sin, whereas in the New he is seen as being forgiving and loving. These are two sides of God which keep people obeying the Ten Commandments, as there are two opinions of him, one that he is punishing and the other that he is forgiving. God also punishes those because he loves all people and love…

According to the textbook, the definition of natural law is the expression of what a person knows in his or her own soul to be right or wrong. The Ten Commandments are a perfect way to apply natural law. A great Commandment to focus on when speaking of natural law is the 7th Commandment, “Thou shall not steal.” In the world that we live in today, I believe that this Commandment is often broken the most. About 75% of the people that rob or steal something feel an immediate guilt, whether they are stealing something very small or very large. The guilt that people feel in their conscience is not taught and is naturally inbred into your soul; This guilt is also called natural law. A good example of how natural law affects a person is the…

Evidence supporting each of these “commandments” for life can be found within the works of Epictetus. In Discourses, the message that is presented encourages man to be thankful to God “for sight, and hearing, and indeed for life itself,” and it provides many examples of how the Will controls all things. Epictetus prompts questions for the reader, and supports his theory by explaining that all things are out of our control, and that God is ultimately in charge. In Enchiridion, we are encouraged to honor the blessings that the Lord has given to us. It is said that everything that we have belongs to Him, and that we should take care of it, but not as our own.…

The first four commandments focus on the relationship between man and God. They command man to revere God and worship Him only. Further, the Sabbath day should be honored as the day a man focuses on their creator. On the other hand, the other six, focus on the relationship between man and another. The emphasis is that people should live harmoniously with one another, thus eliminating vices such as murder, stealing, disrespect, adultery, coveting and bearing false witnesses (Exodus 20, King James Version).…

Jesus does not regret the Old Testament Law in the Sermon on the Mount. Jesus states in the Sermon on the Mount, that he did not come to abolish the law, but to fulfill it. Also, the law was meant to be interpreted differently in the New Testament because of Jesus. Even though at some points in the Sermon on the Mount Jesus rephrases the commandments, it does not mean that he is rejecting all of them in their entirety. So, looking right at the surface of the Sermon on the Mount, it seems like Jesus is rewriting the commandments, but if we dig a little deeper, the realization of the commandments true meanings arise.…

The “Old Testament” is a Christian term for the Hebrew Bible. It is a collection of religious writings by Israelites that form the first section of the Christian Bible and the ‘Old Testament” was later added to the second collection of writings known as the New Testament. The books are divided into several sections, one is known as Pentateuch. Another is the history books that tell the history of the Israelites, the wisdom books have the old age questions of good and evil in the world; and the books of the biblical prophets warns people of the consequences if they turning away from God. Each religion uses these old testaments but…

In the bible, Exodus talks about the ten special rules, which are known as the Ten Commandments. Since this reflection is speaking about lies and deceit, I would like to point out the commandment that speaks on this reflection and that is, “Thou shalt not bear false witness against thy neighbor.” This is one of those commandments where God established guidelines for interacting with other people. It is to help us understand that our actions should be motivated by love. Jesus said the entire Law of Moses, as well as the books of the prophets could be summed up in two commandments: “Love the Lord your God with all your heart, soul, and mind,” and “Love others a s much as you love yourself”(Matthew 22:37-40). Everything we do should be motivated by love. As humans, we are instinctively self-centered. No time in life is the more obvious, especially when moral and character development cannot be left open to discovery learning; it should already be embedded as powerful attributes. I always pray and let the Holy Spirit lead me in everything I say and do. I appreciate the commandments God has given us but also the blessings that I reap as a benefit of adhering to them.…

This quote proves that obedience can be liberating, “Two ideas permeate the Rule of Benedict: love and wisdom. Love is the motive; wisdom is the goal and the Way. Two great loves, love of God and love of the other, impel us to look outside ourselves and learn from those outside of ourselves where we really are in life. When we love something besides ourselves and when we listen to someone besides ourselves we have glimmers of growth to guide us (Chittister 70)”. Once a human looks past themselves into the bigger picture of life and listens with the “ear of their heart” to those around them, they find love and wisdom and see a sense of growth, which leads to a feeling of…
