I decided to research on this topic because it has come to my attention that girls today try so hard to become the perfect person. We live in a place where we are judged by our looks and appearance. My topic is to what extent is beauty be considered a social construct can. I am interested in this topic as I am part of this society. As a girl, I believe all girls want to look their best, look good and also impress others. I want to know how the media effects out definition of beauty; how the development in of society changes standards of beauty and how different cultures have their own views on beauty.
Media is everywhere in our lives. We see posters of models, celebrities on television, social media and everywhere. Our definition of beauty is affected by the media every day. We get influenced by what they wear, what make up they use and what hair styles they have. We have more technology which exposes us to more media which is nearly unavoidable. We have cell phones which are able to connect to wi-fi. Through the newest technologies, the message of the idea perfect person is then reinforced. My research shows most women before the last decade did want to be beautiful but they weren’t as extreme as they kept their natural body curves and weren’t as influenced as the people today. My research also states one of the reasons many people today want to be so extreme with their standards of beauty is due to the development of our society.
