In the drama Beauty by Jane Martin, two good friends Carla and Bethany are both wanting different lives. The two think the others life is perfect for themselves, and they just really want to swap lives. Carla and Bethany both have trouble accepting who they are , and long to be like each other. The two would like very badly to have one another lives, but as later shown they are more alike then they knew before. Carla has a modeling job making a lot of money for high end companies. She is always invited to parties and is very popular around town, but she would like to get more respect from people around her. She starts to think that if she wasn’t so go looking better men would come to her for relationships. She wants this to happen because she has never had a long term relationship unlike her friend. Men come up to her in sexual ways. She feels like she is a outcast even though she is not just because the way men treat her. She thinks by being smarter it would affect her relationships
Her job is publishing short stories, and she is wanting something that is larger than herself. She thinks the better looking you are the more money you will make in life. A reason she believes that is true because her friend Carla has a high paying job and all she is, is beautiful. It is a little ironic that she would want a higher paying job even though she is making forty thousand a year straight out of school. Other than the greed for money Bethany just wants to be beautiful to get men flocking to her in hordes. She doesn’t care about how the men give her attention, she just wants it. She sees that Carla getting attention like that all the time and that is just what she wants to get. By doing that it will make her feel more complete. This symbolizes that she wants more in life and will do anything to get it. Bethany just wants to be noticed by a new crowed and to do that she thinks she has to change who she really
