What is the definition of beauty? This is a difficult question because beauty is a hard thing to define. Scientist have struggled to define what attributes make a person beautiful or attractive. Beauty is seen differently all around the world. What may seem beautiful in one persons eye may not be in someone else's. Despite the opinions whether it is true or not that the beauty standards are overrated. There are major effects that take place because of this issue. Beauty standards today may or may not be considered unrealistic. because beauty has been looked upon differently in everyone's eyes.

This is when the "golden proportion" took place. This was created by a person named Plato, who saw beauty as having symmetry. Also mentioned by the author, after 2,000 years, scientist tested Plato's theory and concluded that his symmetry theory was correct. (The concept of women beauty over the centuries) It wasn't until the Middle Ages that beauty started taking shape. Women began being obligated to do certain things and look a certain way. For example in Western Europe, once a women was married they were not allowed to show their hair to any other man. Also blonde hair color was frowned upon causing women to immediately darken their hair. During the Renaissance is when nudity irised. One if the main features bring the breast. A difference from then and now is how women were not seen badly for showing their cleavage. Instead they were not allowed to to expose their ankles and shoulders. Another era that differentiates beauty standards in the ancient times is shown back in the seventeenth century. Puritans saw makeup and dresses was sinful.
Going about 100 years back a bit closer to this time era compared to the renaissance age, there are visible beauty standards that have came about and never really got out of style. This is a fashion show for lingerie that airs once a year that puts in the spotlight women with thin waist, long legs, and large breast. This causes women sitting at home to think to themselves why they cannot look like that. Comparing there features to the models features. But the real question is, why wouldn't they if they have the so called "perfect" body. Studies showed that women feel pressured to be beautiful by the time there 14 years old.
