Life is easier for attractive people because they have much easier time during job hunting, and also get promoted faster, and make more money. In his essay,” beauty discrimination during a job search” Tara Parker Pope states that good –looking men and women get job more easily as compared to the ordinary –looking men and women. He also mentions a study done by the economist at Ben-Gurion university in Israel. In this study ,5,312 resumes were sent to 2,600 employers. This study concluded that 19.9 percent of men who sent their attractive picture got job interviews than 13.7 percent of men with plain photos. I agree with the author that beauty is one of the important factors which most employers consider. Although , the civil rights act of 1964 that decrees that no one should be denied a job opportunity based on their appearance, such appearance discrimination are built in to our society.Yesterday, I read a news in’’ New York Times” which shows author point of view that people are fired because of their appearance. . A number of cocktails waitress boned together, and took their employer to the court. They alleged that they were laid off because they are too short and not too skinny.
However, an other factor during job search which the writer did not mention is age. Most of the people do not get job after forty because owner think that old people cost company more than young people.Organization has to give more pay, benefits, pension to old people. Moreover, due to poor health isurance of aged people is more expensive than the young. Unfortunately, this happens despite of the enactment of Age discrimination employment Act 1967. The same behavior is seen everywhere In cluding my native country .I remembered the story of my uncle who worked in National Bank in my country . He put his whole life for the bank , he
