It all began when Opal rescues a dog Winn-Dixie. A Dog that is running all around the Winn-Dixie grocery store! Opal goes home and finds a way to convince the preacher (Her Father) to let her keep the dog for herself. Since the preacher has always advised her to help the less fortunate and that Winn-Dixie is a less fortunate. Winn-Dixie helps Opal with all of her problems since she in her in town and has no friends to talk to. For example Winn-Dixie helped her ask the preacher more about her momma and her past.
