Becoming A Cheerleader

Participating in extracurricular activities can help one learn many different lessons in life. I have been a cheerleader my entire life and it has really shaped me into the person I am today. Of course I have learned a lot about cheerleading, but I have also learned life lessons such as leadership, responsibility, and time management. These lessons have prepared me for the rest of my life. The most important lesson one can learn in life is leadership. It is very significant to be a leader at all times. Every leader needs to realize that others look up to them. It is critical that the leader of the team has good characteristics and makes good decisions in and outside of school. There are many ways that I have learned responsibility. As a cheerleader, I must dress up every Friday, make goody bags for players, sell tattoos, and plan pep rallies. If I do not follow these responsibilities, there are serious consequences such as demerits. If a cheerleader receives thirty demerits, she will be kicked off the squad. If one performs good actions and shows responsibility well, he or she is able to receive merits; therefore, it is important to be responsible. Another significant lesson to be learned in sports is time management. A wise woman once told me, “If you’re on time you’re late, and if you’re late demerits.” Once one has committed to a team, he or she must stick to it and follow through with the commitment he or she has made. It is very important that one is on time to all practices and events. There are many times that the cheerleaders have to come to school early, such as selling tattoos. Every Thursday morning we must be in the library by 7:10 a.m. This requirement has taught me how to manage my time
