Becoming A Cosmetologist
Becoming a Cosmetologist, it would take up to 2-4 years of college, depending on what diploma you would like. I would be going, hair, makeup, skin, and nail care. Hair stylist, make up, skin, and nail specialist. I think I would really fit in with that kind of work atmosphere. After high school, I would like to attend school, to become a hair stylist. So I can expand my knowledge, and begin my career. I think I would fit right in, in the workplace considering I’m constantly changing my hair color. To get the skills I will need, I’ll need to become a hair stylist. I would need to attend a program, that will allow me to gain the cutting, design, and coloring strategies I will need. I already know the basis of coloring but with just one solid color. Eventually in my years of attending school, I’ll learn more techniques with multiple colors at one time. …show more content…
The BLS (Basic life support) reports the median hourly wage for hairdressers in 2013 was $11.12, which translates to $23,140 a year. The best-paid earned approximately $44,220, while the worst-paid made about $17,010. If you ask me that is some pretty good money. While attending school, to become a hair stylist I would like to further my education in cosmetology and include make up. With including make up in my career it would bring me more customers, with prom, weddings, and professional pictures. I’m sure I’ll be able to accomplish these things with my steady work

The ancient Greeks made lavish use of perfumes and cosmetics in their religious rites, in grooming, and for medicinal purposes. They built elaborate baths and developed excellent methods of dressing the hair and caring for the skin and nails. Greek women applied preparations of white lead on their faces, kohl on their eyes, and vermilion on their cheeks and lips. The brilliant red pigment was made by grinding cinnabar, a mineral that is the chief source of mercury, to a fine powder. It was mixed with ointment or dusted on the skin in the same way as modern cosmetics are applied…

After reading Peter Cappelli article “Why focusing too Narrowly in College Could Backfire” I started to think about my own educational goals and why I chose to be a hairstylist. When I graduated from high school I attend beauty college, at that time the beauty industry was booming. There was a salon on every corner. There was always walk- ins and new clients available for stylist. Now with the social media craze like YouTube, Facebook, and Instagram, the African American salon business has fallen because social media outlets. These outlets, teach ordinary people how to do their own hair, and caused stylist to lose clients. We also have the natural hair movement, that took clients that would normally come into the salon for hair weaves and relaxers, and are now wearing their hair in its natural state and don’t need the salon anymore. Another major down fall to African American salon industry was manufacturing companies like L’Oréal and Shea moisture that promotes salon quality products on YouTube for the naturalista. These were a few major changes that happen in…

One of the most important decisions of my life was choosing to go back to school. I was 30 years old, raising two kids at the time, and the last thing in the world I wanted to do was go back to school. I had previously attended cosmetology school and received a degree in its study. I had been working as a stylist for 5 years but it just was not enough. I needed to support my family and live comfortably and working under someone else’s authority could not fulfill my goals and dreams. One dream of mine is to one day own my own salon and become a successful business owner. I knew that a cosmetology degree could not teach me the skills needed to run a business and be successful. This is when I began thinking that I should go back to school for a business management degree. There was only one thing on my mind at this time, my age, I wondered if I could handle college at this point in my life.…

When I grow up I would love to become a cosmetologist. I have always been interested in styling mine, and others’ hair since I was a little girl. My aunt is a cosmetologist and I have always delighted in watching her delicately and gracefully cut, color, and style people’s hair. Once in awhile she will show me different techniques she has taught herself, or learned in school, and even discuss schooling with me. She says I am more than welcome to move to Lawrence and live with her and attend the award winning beauty school there in Lawrence. Everytime we get the chance to talk on this subject I get excited. Her helping and teaching me has inspired me in so many ways for the reason that it makes me feel as though this dream is actually in reach.…

My career interest is cosmetology. I have always wanted to own my own beauty salon and become a cosmetologist. I am interested in cosmetology because I love to do hair and being an African American, I need to have my hair done to look nice and presentable. As a child, I always wanted to do others and my own hair. My mother had a license in cosmetology for fourteen years and I always wanted to be just like her. My strengths are that I can do wraps, straighten and curl hair, relax and perm hair, shampoo and deep condition hair, weaves, up dos, color, roller wraps, children styles, and lashes. My weaknesses are that I can’t braid or cut hair, I can’t do arch, pluck, or thread eyebrows, I am not that great at make-up and I do not have a cosmetology license. If I can make my weaknesses my strengths then I will be on the perfect path to…
