In the dawn of the twentieth century women’s lives greatly changed from their wardrobe to their social sphere. Women of the 1900’s dressed in the utmost highest fashion with long elegant gowns that covered them from head to toe . These women had perfect bodies along with perfect etiquette. In the novel Shepherd of the Hills Sammy Lane was the complete opposite of what a typical woman of the 1900’s was like. She did not keep her hair brushed or her hands clean.
