The selection process is a multi-phase testing procedure that includes written examinations, fitness for duty assessment, polygraph examination, comprehensive background investigation/review, and an oral interview. If given a offer for a job, there must be a medical examination, psychological examination with an interview, and there also a drug screening test. Recruits have six months of training or 1200 hours of intensive academic and physical training. This takes place in Jefferson City ,where the academy is. The training situations are in pursuit driving, arrest procedures, self defense, cultural diversity, physical conditioning, traffic law, civil law, and accident investigation.
