Becoming A Psychologist: A Career Analysis
There are two factors which help me take responsibility for my own learning; the fact that I enjoy learning and that I want to become a neurologist in the near future, an aspiration which I have thought about ever since I started secondary school. Both of my parents haven’t been to university so I would like to make them proud. I took early entry GCSE exams for chemistry last year and attained an A overall, a grade which I worked hard for. Success in the academic field isn’t easy, it requires boundless resilience, hard work and focus, all of which grow as you progress to the next stage. I am willing to put in all of the work needed and much more not only be successful, but excellent in my field and being able to look back at a worthy life.

Winston Churchill said, “Success is not final, failure is not fatal; it is the courage to continue that counts.” You are not guaranteed to be successful so you must work hard to succeed. If you happen to fall along the way, get back up and try again; failure won’t kill you, it will only make you stronger. What counts the most is that you continue to do your absolute best even though there may be obstacles in your way. This can be seen in each of articles I read as well as in my own experience. Each person in the articles, and myself have had some sort of obstacle to overcome when it came to our education but we never gave up until we were where we wanted or needed to be. If we want to be successful and get a good education we must have determination, encouragement, and fulfillment.…

Having grown up in a single parent home with two sisters who did not complete high school, made the pressure for me to succeed unimaginable. The constant reminder of achieving greatness has stuck with me since I was eight years old. Throughout middle school I was top of my class, in high school I graduated cum laude with a 4.4 GPA and currently in my 1st year of college I am top of my intermediate/college algebra class, I scored the highest grade out of all 5 of my psychology teachers classes, and I have an A in my Philosophy class. My educational goals consist of gaining knowledge throughout my entire life, achieving higher than my goals, being as involved as I can possibly be with my college/ community, and continuing to prosper. Ever since…

Over the years I have discovered many things, alone, about myself, that would benefit me in the long run. As a child, math and science didn’t interest me, but I always knew what profession I wanted to take up, while in college. It was not until my high school years that I begun to realize the chosen field I wanted to major in medicine. I was surprised on how much I had evolved on the idea of math and science. Still, I was very much unaware of my next step with fulfilling my dream in college. However through research and determination I would soon be able to work towards my goals.…

    Life Factor Assessment

After taking the Life Factors assessment, I learned that I need to be more concerned about my future academic commitment and that my reason for going back to school may be a concern. I guess it’s because I get discouraged at times. Sometimes, I sit and think of the reasons why I’m in school and how it will benefit me. I don’t want to be one of those people with two degrees, and no job, that’s scary to me. Having ample time, having a place to study, and having a solid level of resources and support were all strengths of mine. My strengths are very important when it comes to me being in school, especially an online school. It wouldn’t be easy for me to concentrate and finish my assignments without having a place that I can study without interruptions or having the necessary resources that I need to excel in my course. The support from friends and family is another strength that I feel I need to continue my education. The motivation and extra push is what keeps me going. I think reason is the life factor that I need to focus on the most. I guess I’m one of those people who believe that you can success depends on your work ethic and how much you want it rather than your education because coming from where I’m from, the most successful people are the ones who don’t have a degree. I try to be realistic because I know that in this day and time, a degree is much needed but when people ask me why I need a degree, I’m speechless. I think my reason for getting a degree is because it looks good and I’m afraid that I’ll regret it if I don’t finish. I will change my behavior by figuring out just why I want my education and focusing on the goal that I want to set. Procrastination and time management are the personality factors that I will work most to strengthen because doing things at the last minute and rushing through it is a big problem for me. It’s easier for me to work under pressure but time isn’t always on my side so I think that learning to work at a decent pace will…

American climate scientist, Mark Caine, exclaims, “The first step toward success is taken when you refuse to be a captive of the environment in which you first find yourself”. Beginning my high school career, I thought high school would be an easy transition because I was accustomed to getting good grades in grammar school, so I did not put as much of an effort as I could have in my studies. The first biology test arrived, and I thought I was knowledgeable on the subject matter so I briefly looked over the material. Approximately a week later I got my test back and I was not satisfied with my grade. That happened for most of my first tests in each of my classes. I learned I would not be satisfied with my grades if I continued to keep those…

Receiving an education is a choice, therefore it is our personal responsibility to make sure that we can meet the academic demand require. A strong sense of self-efficacy supports that responsibility because it can somehow motivate us to move on and challenge our way to academic success because we believe in our ability to reach our goal. Self-efficacy is an individual‘s perceived capabilities to attain designated types of performances and to achieve specific results (Pajares, 1996; Tella & Ayeni, 2006). When we accept responsibility for our own actions we can easily recognize and overcome the tests that are bound to happen along the way. Our positive outlook strengthens our confidence…

A personal accomplishment of mine that sets me apart, not from the individuals of SFA or my community per se, but from my family, is that I am the first person to go to a four-year university with an end goal in mind. Both, my mother and father, attended a community college, but only completed about two semesters each. Neither of them knew what they wanted to gain from college, they simply attended because they thought it was what they were supposed to be doing. However, I have an end goal. I know I want to have a career in the psychology department, either as a clinical psychologist or a forensic psychologist, and I know I will eventually have to go to graduate school after my first four years. This accomplishment has really set me apart because…

I am the only one responsible for my successes and failures. Blaming others will only waste my time and that means I would be procrastinating. Maybe it is not something easy to accept but the sooner I realize it, the sooner I will achieve my goal to succeed in college. I am the only one in control of my life, and I will not leave for tomorrow what I can do today. I have the gift as everyone else, of free will to make conscious choices that carries tremendous responsibility, and every choice I make can either benefit or harm me. I will need to increase self-motivation because no one else can help me out on completing a task. However, asking for help and advice can give me some options on which way to go or where to start. Not taking responsibility for my actions and choices will jeopardize my success to…

The decision I made to further my education was an on going process for about four years. I would always use the fact that I had just started a new job or I needed to wait until my kids were older before I would enroll in school. I also feared being the oldest person in the class and didn’t want to not be able to relate on a personal level with my classmates. I continued to make excuse after excuse as to why the current time was not the best time for me to enroll in college and make my dream a reality. When in actuality, no time would have been the right time. The learning theory that I related to best was the observational learning theory. As some of my friends and family members started to pursue their higher education goals, it gave me the boost I needed to do the same. I felt like, if they can do it I can too. With the motivation and support from all the people around me, the decision I had been trying to make for the past four years and thought was difficult, became easy and all of a sudden made since.…
