To become a successful pastry chef a good education is needed, and also a lot of training, and amazing cooking skills to help right along with the journey of becoming a pastry chef. Being a chef is not always an easy job. This job takes a lot of dedication. When working on a pastry arrangement chefs could possibly get no sleep, and if they do get a chance to sleep, it would not be much sleeping time before they are back up starting another arrangement. Taking on this job is a big deal because this is not what you would call a regular eight hour job. Leaving is not an option when the job for that certain arrangement is over. In other words, in order to take on this amazing job you have to start with a good education. One of the many very well recommended school which is Le Cordon Bleu, which is a great way to start a career of becoming a pastry chef. Le Cordon Bleu is worldwide recognized program, and is seen as the most finest culinary arts program available for students interested in becoming a chef. Students that attend this program can learn up to anything as simple as basic cooking skills. “Our industry-current kitchens and culinary classrooms are designed for students to immerse themselves in the culinary world, working alongside professional instructors learning focused, theoretical foundation and essential, technical skills that can be applied to the preparation of any cuisine”(What 1). The program is located in sixteen different places all over the United States. Two of them are in Texas, and are located in Dallas, Texas and the other in Austin, Texas.

    Cooks are also very competitive and are extreme perfectionists. In a large, full-scale kitchen, there are many stations in which a cook could specialize. Sometimes more than forty cooks in a single restaurant compete for the best positions. A garde-manger is the lowest position while hot appetizers and pasta and risotto stations are of higher levels. The most wanted stations are the positions at the fish, meat and grill lines, where the main courses are prepared (Hesser, 3).     You don’t necessarily need a degree to become a chef you really only need a good amount of on the job training. Most chefs nowadays usually go to a culinary school to get a degree as a chef before they even start working in that field. You need at least two years of culinary school to get the degree which is an associates’, but you can go for up to six years to get higher degrees of a chef like a Bachelors’ or a Masters’ degree. In order to get an Associates’ degree you need to get just fifteen credits at the Culinary Institute of America to get the degree but to get a Bachelors’ degree you need at least 132 credits at C.I.A. to get the degree. The lowest tuition you would have to pay is anywhere between $2,000 and $5,000 dollars per year, if you want to get into a little more expensive culinary school you could be paying between $15,000 and $30,000 but if you want to go to a private school it could range anywhere from $14,000 to $45,000 dollars per year.
