Bed Time Stories
In bed time stories by Perri Klass,M.D, the author wants the reader to understand that kids should be read to before bed or during the day but if they can read to their kids they promote literacy promotion. Firstly, there were two doctors at Pamela c. high saying how that reading books can later develop language development and school success. Secondly, the pediatrics published a story saying that listening to a story instead of having it read to them still however, it can still activate brain activity but nowhere near where it can be. However, children that had more books at home and reported that their parents had read to them , had increased activation and working areas in the brain at a lower age. Lastly, poor children in the more middle

One major weakness was that the researchers should have added an interview portion that allowed parents to share which methods they used to teach their children literacy. This would have given the researchers an area to be looking for, rather than searching. Another weakness was that the children used in this study were extremely young. To get a better understanding of children that are entering elementary school, the researchers should have used children that would be starting within the next month. This would have given a better representation of the literary levels of enrolling elementary school…

I have to agree with you! I always knew the importance of reading aloud, but I didn’t know that reading to babies was also important as well, as Mem Fox discussed. I truly didn’t think that babies would be able to understand what was being read and I didn’t realize the benefits of reading to them at such a young age. I also agree that reading three books each night is a goal that should be accomplished because it is a “do-able” amount. I think the Mem Fox reading really opened my eyes even more about the benefits of reading out loud to children.…

It is well known that reading to children, especially throughout the toddler and pre-school years, is positively correlated with increased reading and literacy levels throughout the school-age years. One particular study (Lee, 2010) investigated the impact of reading to children specifically during morning transitional periods at a childcare facility. The implications of this study show that there could be numerous benefits linked to parents reading to their children during these periods in particular.…

After reading Mitsuye Yamada’s Bedtime Story, I feel like I do “get it”. In my opinion the point of the story is to try and get a message out to the readers. I think the message is when one door closes another door opens. As read in the passage an old Japanese woman was walking around many small villages seeking a place to rest for the night. Everyone opened their doors to the elderly woman but denied her a place to stay for the night. After having no success with the people of the villages she decided to rest at the top of a hill, while resting the elderly woman saw a beautiful sight of the full moon. While standing at the top of this hill, the elderly woman shouted in “supplication” to the village thanking them for denying her a place to rest for the night. If they had not refused her request, she would have not been able to witness this beautiful night sky.…

I would like to mention that for my parents, especially for my dad, reading has always been a favorite hobby. Partly due to this fact, I have always received positive emotions while reading. If both of one of the parents often read, the likelihood that their child will want to receive positive emotions from this activity is very high. On the other hand, if parents do not read but require a child to read too much, the reading can become a field of resistance between the child and his or her parents. Reading has always been an easy and pleasant leisure for my parents. I am immensely grateful to my father who was an influential literacy sponsor and still has the biggest impact on me. I am used to see my dad who is a cardiologist working on his own development and expanding his knowledge in many fields. We have a family tradition to read a science book every month and later discuss some of its points together. I find such kind of pastime to be truly useful and…

As a child, I was read to all the time. I can remember all the times where I would curl up on my mom’s lap and she would read countless stories to me over and over again. Some of my favorites consisted of Dr, Seuss, The Very Hungry Caterpillar, and the Bear Snores On. When I look back, my Mom was very gracious to me because I collected a great deal of her time because I repeatedly insisted on reading more and more. I don’t recall the exact time I learned to read, but I know that I was beyond excited to be able to read on my own, without the help of anyone. I have never had a troublesome time reading, it automatically came fairly effortless for me to grasp. I know that this is not the case…

In “Bedtime Story” by George MacBeth, he demonstrates the dumb violence of humans. Our primal, mindless habits to hurt lead to the destruction of ourselves and other species. Many times, when humans hate or fear an animal for hurting them, it only acted in self-defense, but people look for excuses to take out their anger from everyday stresses on other living things. MacBeth demonstrates the idiotic and primal nature of our violence by using a tribal human character, and shows our needless violence in the human’s hunting habits and mannerisms. To portray a message of peace, he compares humans to a kind alien race much like bees, which we consider hurtful pests. He also shows the unfairness in our violence with a race that respects humans even…
