Queen Addie rules her bee’s with kindness. Sometime she is quiet and serious, and other times she is wacky and loud. More than anything else, Queen Addie wants to be cowgirl. As a matter of fact, she spends most days; repeating words to sound like a country girl. On the walls of her throne room are pictures of a wagons and cactuses. Queen Addie wears a pink sparkly cowboy hat and shiny pink boots. Her bees laugh quietly whenever she stands before me. It does not bother her because she is focused. The Burpee-Grumble Bees always whisper that Queen Addie is as tough, as old boots!…

Having your book turned into a movie is a dream come true: the genius of your mind on the big screen for all to see, coupled with a small dose of fame and fortune. It is everything an author could hope for. Not J.D. Salinger, though. It is well known that the brilliant American author refused to sell his movie rights. Filmmakers had to craft the little pieces of Salinger in their hearts into other, Salinger-inspired stories. One of these stories is played out in the film The Royal Tenenbaums. You don’t have to look closely to find the bits of the Glass family stuck in this tale.…

    Swing Kids Movie Analysis

The 1993 drama “Swing Kids” starring Robert Sean Leonard and Christian Bale is overall a very good movie. The film is set in Nazi ruled Germany in the year 1939 and tells the incredible story of three boys and their love and fight for swing music. Swing Kids is a remarkable display of directing and acting talent. Thomas Carter's eye for camera technique lends the feeling of actually being alongside the characters throughout their struggle. From the moment the movie began with a remarkable dance sequence, to possibly one of the most dramatic and heart wrenching final scenes in movie history, I was unable to take my eyes away from the screen. The emotions that Swing Kids delivers to the viewers range from happiness and excitement, to anger and sadness. I highly encourage all that have a passion for good film to sit back, relax, and enjoy “Swing Kids”. I give Swing Kids two thumbs up, and a 9/10.…

    Birds And The Bees Speech

“The Birds and the Bees”, If you haven’t given “The talk” you’ve probably received it. I remember my mom bought me The Birds and the Bees book from a yard sale and I was mortified that I was supposed to be reading it. Naturally, I pretended to read the book for a week and then tried to hide it away in my attic. At age 11, I wasn’t exactly and expert at hiding things so it was just thrown onto an open shelf in my attic. Little did I except my 8 year old sister to be going into the attic for any reason; getting up there requires being able to reach the pull hook on the ceiling then climbing up the 45 degree angled ladder. I heard a screech from the attic, I ran up and to find my sister sitting there with a horrified look on her face as if she just witnessed a murder. I have a look of shock on my face while I’m bombarded with questions, “What the heck is this? Why do we have this book? Why is this so graphic? I think I might have gone blind! What is this?”. She never let’s me forget about how much I traumatized her. Talking to kids about the taboo topics of sex, racism, and…

    Bees Ethos Pathos Logos

Aristotle has three appeals. The first appeal is ethos. This means the speakers competence and character. In my speech about bees being endangered I spoke about my ignorance towards bees. My ignorance was started after I got stung and existed until I watched a bee pollinate a flower. The second appeal is logos. This is the evidence and reasoning you deliver in the speech. For example, the reasoning, I talked about is what bees job is. They pollinate a lot of plants and this allows many families to survive. The evidence of bee decline in population is the number of crops suffering to grow. The last appeal is pathos. Pathos is the emotional appeal. Everyone gets upset when you include how dogs and cats are affected by something. I spoke about…

Honey bees are one of the matriarchies in the insect kingdom. Colonies consist of one queen, a lot of male worker bees, and a few male drones. Ninety-five percent of the worker bees are female. A healthy hive is occupied by a collection of many generations. Tasks are divided up by age and colony through an intricate system of communication. Younger worker bees tend to the queen and the baby bees. Older worker bees forage for food and water for the colony, convert nectar into honey, construct wax cells and clean the cells, and guard the hive from invader. These worker bees are the bees that develop stingers to defend the eggs laid by the queen. Drones have only one purpose, to mate with the queen. The queen will only leave the hive once in her lifetime, and that is to mate…

In the “Maya the bee” I like a lot of characters such as Flip the grasshopper, Miss Cassandra an adult bee and the little Ben the bung beetle, but the most character that I like is the little bee whose name Maya. This bee was born in the hive along with Willy; Maya’s best friend and other bees. Since she born, she was not like other bees, she was very curious about what beyond the hive. She is a smart and very kind bee. All the bees love her, but unintentionally she brought a lot of troubles to the hive. For thus, the bees were annoyed by her unacceptable behaviors. Later, she believed that she did not belong to the hive anymore. She felt resentful about living in the hive and doing the regular bees’ duties. At that point she knew that she had to convince the queen to let her leave the hive. The problem was: asking to…
