It was a risky action in which Beethoven took because during this period, the music scene in Vienna was still affected by the work of Haydn, who wrote his last symphony in 1795 and Mozart’s Jupiter symphony which was published in 1788. Also, the growing of public appreciation for symphony music increase as concerts were no longer became something only just the higher class in the society could obtain. The decline of private concerts that were supported by patrons allows the idea of public concert to popularize. Beethoven moved to Vienna in 1792, during the French Revolution in which followed by the execution of King Louis XVI caused a shock to the society. By publically premier his first symphony was an attempt from Beethoven to break away of the financially dependence on the patrons and to highlight his political view. It was composed in the year of 1804, but due to having several other projects he had to postpone his writing. It wasn’t until about 1808 that he premiered the song along with symphony Number Sixth in which he dedicated to Prince Lobkowitz and Count Andreas Rasumovsky. The tempo of this specific song is allegro and involves four movements. The first movement of the song has a dramatic yet potent feeling to it. It made me imagine something terrible was about to happen to someone leaving me in suspense of what was about to come. When Beethoven wrote this song he had strong feeling which defiantly showed in the first movement of this…

This end of the journey is a magnificent chorale using a modified version of Schilling’s poem Ode to Joy.…
This movement sounds like he was painting a beautiful picture. It has some kinds of romantic emotion, but Beethoven described it by a sorrowful way. Beethoven composed this movement use lots of sixteenth notes, from one part to others. The theme sixteenth notes were formed by A.F.E.D. Beethoven was experiencing some severe abdominal pains and the stress fro everything going on in his life didn't help. He was trying to right his 10th symphony but his pain made it too difficult to keep writing. Here is how Romain Rolland describes Beethoven’s final day: "That day was tragic. There were heavy clouds in the sky… around 4 or 5 in the afternoon the murky clouds cast darkness in the entire room. Suddenly a terrible storm started, with blizzard and snow… thunder made the room shudder, illuminating it with the cursed reflection of lightning on snow. Beethoven opened his eyes and with a threatening gesture raised his right arm towards the sky with his fist clenched. The expression…
From BBC Music Magazine that the 8th symphony is, “The familiar warmth is still there, but now there's a much firmer sense of disciplined purposefulness, and barely a rubato in sight. Whatever your opinions on the morality of style, there's a lovely generosity and enthusiasm about Dumay's playing and direction that makes it all very hard to resist” The opinion from BBC Music Magazine about the symphony is that they really love it with the strong purpose in this symphony and how powerful it stands out. Then from Gramophone Magazine their opinion is, “Perhaps not every gesture convinces, but better that than an anodyne, safety-first approach; rest assured, there's no whiff of stale routine, and Dumay's customary stylish, raptly intense showing,…

Beethoven’s Symphony No.5 in C minor is one of the most popular compositions in classical music of all time. The tempo of the traditional symphonic performance was much slower than its modern/contemporary counterpart. The traditional orchestra’s tempo was moderato which means Moderate in terms of speed of the beats. The modern performance’s tempo was much faster and livelier. The reason for this is that the modern performance consisted of electric guitars and modern technology which made it easier to manipulate the music. Dynamics means the amount of loudness in music. In this symphony there is a wide dynamics range. For example in the first part of the orchestral symphony the dynamics were mostly loud. The music continued to be built up then down. In the second part the music started very low and gradually went up then back down as the orchestra introduced the second theme of the song. Harmony is the simultaneous sounding of two or more pitches. This symphony uses both consonant and dissonant harmony. The first part of the symphony has mostly tension which makes it dissonant, it also returns to this tension in later parts of the performance. However In the beginning of the second part of the traditional performance the instruments are playing at an equilibrium which makes it consonant. This means that Beethoven’s symphony uses both consonant and dissonant harmony. The music between the different themes switched from polyphonic to homophonic. For example the first part of the traditional performance was mostly polyphonic while the third part was homophonic. The majority of the song however was polyphonic. Scale is a series of stepwise pitches. From the 18th minute till the 19th minute of the traditional performance the scale continued to increase.…

Haydn and his farewell symphony embodies the ideas of the enlightenment. Musicians had lost a lot of their status and his symphony led to a protest against the Prince Esterhazy. He didn’t allow the musicians families to visit them and it created an outcry from the musicians. During the performance of this symphony the musicians one by one walked off stage. This marks the time when musicians finally found their stature back in society and gained the recognition they deserved. Mozart and his operas signify the change taking place in the enlightenment. His music was genius in how it captured the characters and told a story with unmatched…
I felt pain as I propelled all my strength through the first famous oboe solo of the piece. My embouchure almost gave way until the last note finally arrived, and there I began to quiver. In my sophomore year, I performed Tchaikovsky’s Fourth Symphony with my regional orchestra. This rather short experience reshaped my approach not only of music, but also of my outlook on life.…
